Are bangs worth it?

I have had bangs since I was in elementary school. Reason being, I have a gigantic forehead, and I thought that growing them out would help conceal this. That being said, I just recently changed up my haircut for the first time in years. Got a nice fade, and now use hair putty to keep them laying up.

I really love the change. I don't have to obsess over how they are laying anymore, and also keeps my oily hair off my forehead (which helped clear up my moderate amount of acne). I am a creature of habit, so I thought that I wouldn't like the change, but so far i'm loving it haha.

I know many people who cut their own bangs. If you trust yourself I would say go for it. Maybe watch a youtube tutorial or something so you don't end up like those poor girls on youtube "bang cutting fails" lmao.

Pro-Tip: Only cut a little bit--less than an inch--off at a time, even if you have a lot of cutting to do. If you take things slowly and only do the teeniest tiniest amounts at a time, you'll be able to avoid most embarrassing fails.

In other words, don't cut your bangs five minutes before a date. Give yourself plenty of time to work at a snail's pace.

Thanks everyone who has commented so far and for giving me some tips. I thought it through a little more and even went to a mirror to look a little bit again and I think I'm just going to keep them. It's a lot easier for me anyways, plus, they look really good on me and I don't think I want to give that up. Grant it, the maintenance can be a pain, but I just need to give it a little bit more time to get used to cutting them and I think I'll be fine. 😀

I had bangs for 12 years. I grew them out in 7th grade and never looked back. I have wavy hair, so they were a struggle. I straightened them all the time, and they gave me horrible acne.

Yes!
Also, no!
I usually have bangs. Sometimes I grow them out and like them for a little bit and end up getting them cut short again. I look older when they’re grown out. But gosh bangs are so cute. I cut them myself but every now and then I go get them fixed along with a normal hair cut. My biggest problem is when they’re not styled they look absolutely terrible. If I’m feeling lazy I comb them over and it’s a small fringe. Hope this helps:)

The best way to style them is blow dry them with a round brush right after a shower/bath

I had bangs for a solid six years to the point where they were essentially my ~aesthetic identity~

I eventually grew them out because they were getting annoying to maintain and I wanted to not have to constantly worry about styling them as I have wavy hair and they never sat nicely naturally. it's a huge commitment to grow them out since they look Super awkward for ages until you can do something with them

The last time I had bangs I was a kid and they got too long so I cut them myself. They were uneven so I kept cutting them until the they were ridiculously short. For me no, but I think they can look very cute if done right.

For me it depends on hair type. If you have naturally straight hair it works. Mine is wavy so I'm constantly straightening them and it's just too much of a hassle for me.
I had this problem as well when I had bangs, except I didn't straighten them so they would curl away from my forehead. It looked really bad. I've actually been thinking about getting some again lately because of my fivehead, but then I remember that and it turns me off them haha.

I understand this a lot actually. I too have wavy hair and it's not always straight, and mine always look best when I get out of the shower, but when I woke up this morning, they were all over the place. I tried to have my bangs down today, but they still don't feel right. I'm being soo indecisive at the moment. I'm still heavily leaning towards growing them out. Also, you are definitely right. It is a huge commitment to grow them out.

mine are completely grown out now but I would say it was almost five or six months before they were long enough to comfortably stay tucked behind my ears and nearly a year before I could tie all of my hair up in a ponytail and not have any of it fall down!! it's now been over two years and they're essentially the same length as the rest of my hair (below my shoulders)

Ah, that's good to hear. I kind of figured it would take around that much time. It's definitely something that would teach anyone a lot of patience.

I've often gotten bangs and was only able to enjoy them for about a month before they got unruly.

If you don't like having to pay someone to cut them you could get a pair of hair sizers off amazon and learn to cut them your self. that is what i did. If you do just take of a little at a time till you get them the length you want. Also be sure to cut them dry so you really tell how much you are cutting off.
