Are the new villagers still being hyped and sold for immense amounts of bells/NMT?

Yea Raymond and Judy are going for exuberant amount of bells/NMTs. I saw someone asking for 650 NMTs for Raymond and 400 NMTs for Judy. My mind was boggled. First of all, I’m not going to stand at the machine to get that many tickets out and lastly, are they serious people asking for irl money? That’s ridiculous!

Sherb still gets a lot of love, but I have an inkling that if I give him away for free to someone who doesn't explicitly say he's their dreamie, they're going to turn around and sell him for high TBT/NMT.
Like, I just want him to go to a good home, not be passed around like an expensive item at an auction.

That's the exact reason why people started making those 'amiibo coins' for villagers. You can get them for any villager for dirt cheap...problem is, people actually WANT the legitimate amiibo cards for their favorite villagers, so the cards still sell really well.

When the Welcome Amiibo expansion was released, literally just trying to complete the full set for myself, I was basically able to complete an entire second set (had to purchase 2 cards off eBay at the time). I sold that second set back in May for....$830.00USD...

That's honestly amazing.

After this I'll have to look into selling off my own duplicates. Nintendo never guessed how valuable these cards would end up being, even more so than some of their amiibo figures.

It's ridiculous yes, but it's not that bad. That's how attached some people are to their villagers. In terms of real money, you can buy a Raymond for 5.00 on eBay. Yes, some people try to sell him for a ton of real money, but those auctions never sell.

It's the same deal with Pokemon. You want a rare/shiny/perfect iv mon? eBay sellers will charge 2.00 and up for that service.

LOL don't even get me started on actual amiibo figures. When they were released, my area didn't get 3 specific ones: Little Mac, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager. Of course, Little Mac and Villager were the only ones I actually wanted. Little Mac I got for a reasonable price. Villager, I overpayed for...
