Figured I can't be the only Asiaphile on the site who enjoys a good drama. So I started a thread. My all time favorite is the Chinese 2018 reboot of Meteor Garden and right now, I'm watching the K-drama Hello, My Twenties.

What are your favorite dramas?

I'm watching some too, not sure how it started, I probably just started watching live action related to anime and then switched to drama. I remember that the first time, I thought it was not really good (but entertaining anyway), with lot of plot holes, far fetched situations and a lot of product placements and then I found all of this funny. It's sure that some are way more serious then others, but I'm not really watching those.
Ah! Now I remember, they filmed one in my city and I was curious about it. I had seen some Japanese ones before, not a lot, like two (Last Cinderella and The Hours of My Life), and maybe one Korean one (She Was Pretty) and then forgot about those until I saw them filming in my city, and I was really curious about it and promised myself I would watch it later...and from then I watched several of them.

Right now, I'm only watching Japanese and Korean ones because knowing me I will want to learn the language and learning 3 is already enough hahaha...That doesn't mean I will never watch those, but it's on hold right now. And because of anxiety problems, I'm trying not to watch anything too serious or too realistic. So I watch mostly historical, comedies, romance and thriller/horror.

Right now I'm watching "My First First Love", "Her Private Life" and "He is Psychometric" and just finished "I Picked Up a Star on the Road" that was funny... I don't know which one would be my all time fav. My favs are generally movies. Sometimes I really enjoy a drama even if it's really cheesy and doesn't make much sense.

Obligatory "as an Asian American person I was hesitant to watch Asian dramas because of the ones my ama watched growing up" post

I really enjoyed the Jdrama (based off a manga) Good Morning Call. Summary of the show here. It had enough cute and goofy moments but also more "serious" ones for my partner & I to enjoy the series as a whole. Some of the tropes within the show were pretty dated and didn't translate well for a series adaptation but that's to be expected. c: Other than that, I don't currently have any desire to delve into more Asian dramas. Maybe this thread will inspire me lol. I do recommend GMC though!

My husband and I went through a phase of watching Korean dramas. Unfortunately, after a while, the tropes got played out and we took a break from them. But there are some very good ones out there.

My top three favorites are:

- City Hunter (action)
- My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (comedy)
- Queen Seondeok (historical)

My favorites are Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo and Age of Youth. I'm currently watching Eulachacha Waikiki 2 and Kill It, and I'm waiting for Abyss that starts next month!!

My favourite Japanese dramas are Code Blue, Gokusen, Nobuta wo Produce, Runaway, and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge.

Regarding Korean dramas I'm currently watching Coffee Prince. My all-time favourite is You're Beautiful.

They're all a little old now, I guess. I think the only one that came out this decade was Runaway, and that was 8-9yrs ago. I still rewatch them all frequently as I own them on DVD.

I haven't looked into these yet, but a coworker would recommend a show with Mr Hedgehog in the title. She was also watching something on her phone where a lady abducts a pop star and ends up selling some of his stuff.

Oh boi I watched so many of them, I used to be suuuuper into them!

I started watching Taiwanese dramas because my friend recommended them to me. The first one I watched was It started with a kiss. Then I watched a bunch of really cheesy and old ones like Love Buffet, Rolling Love, Smiling Pasta, Pili MIT, Sunshine Angel... So many more lol. I even made a youtube videos with my fav ones in like 2014 haha. My favourite actors/actresses back then were Ariel Lin, Joe Cheng, Mike He, and Rainie Yang.

My favourite taiwanese dramas are: Autumn's concerto (i cried so much!!), Love O2O (super wholesome), Down With Love (Loved Ella in this, she was so cheerful).

Then I moved on to Korean dramas. I think the first one I watched was Secret Garden, but i'm not sure.
Some of my favourite ones are 49 days, Scarlet Heart, My love from another star, Ice Adonis (longest one i've watched), Love Rain, Secret love.

Haven't seen that many japanese ones, but i looved From Five to Nine. I've watched a few dramas with Kazuya Kamenashi and Tomohisa Yama****a, but that's about it.

My asian drama addiction kinda stopped tho, it's really hard for me to find one I like now. I've been watching SKY castle recently and it's pretty good c:

There was this one that aired back in 2008, a J-drama called Osen. It was about this scatter-brained restaurant owner and her kitchen employees, one of which was a city boy. It showcased a lot of traditional Japanese food and I loved it so much. I don't know how hard it is to find, though, since I watched it as it aired.
