I speared my brother off the bed as a kid. That's the first time I beat him up.
I remember baking with my mom. That's the closest we've ever been.

I know exactly what you mean. I've always loved writing, but wasn't so sure about the author thing either. I went into Print Journalism in college and came out not liking writing anymore - it kind of ruined it for me. I changed gears completely (I'm in school for Software/Website Development now) and I'm slowly getting back into writing.
Have you thought about editing? Like transcripts for books and stuff. That would be interesting and you could always write on the side
