Avatar: The Last Airbender / Legend of Korra

"Turned lesbian" makes you sound like someone who thinks people have to be 100% straight or 100% gay and tells anyone who isn't either "pick a side!!111"

"I didn't call you bigot or ignorant, so stop projecting." (This basically is still calling me a bigot and ignorant, but okay..)

That's what you said. That's pretty much assuming what I believe. You told me this and have since responded with such disrespect and passive aggressiveness that I just got taken aback. I sincerely apologise for the random caps, lol. I'm actually just really frustrated and it came out that way. I didn't take the time to gather my thoughts to put it all down properly. But I don't want to defend myself anymore.

Anyway, please read my edit on my previous post. I don't want to argue with you. I'm tired and I haven't slept yet. Sorry for offending you. But I don't have the energy. I'll just accept what you have to say about me, so let's just let this thread get back to what it was meant to be, which is just a simple fun discussion about these series. :)

"makes you sound like"

saying i didn't call you a bigot or ignorant is calling you a bigot or ignorant? yeah okay.

well, okay than. apology accepted and this conversation got old long ago.

Sigh. Well okay then. Trying to be civil towards you just gets me more passive aggressiveness.. But that's okay.

:) I want to end it with a nice thing to say though: I really love your art. Let's just leave it at that because this conversation is actually triggering my social anxiety and I want to give out some positive vibes instead. ^_^ Have a wonderful day, friend!

I loved ATLA as a kid! It was one of the best shows that aired on Nickelodeon, and everything about it was memorable: the story, the characters, and the fight scenes. I recently just rewatched it, and I appreciate the story a lot more now that I'm older. As a kid, I just watched it, 'cause I thought the fighting was really cool. Now, that I'm older, I fully understand the themes presented in the show, and I can sympathize with the characters and understand them a whole lot better. It was an amazing show, and it'll always be one of my favorites.

Now, LOK was okay, but I just couldn't get into it as much as I wanted to. That love triangle between Korra, Mako, and the other girl kinda ruined it for me, and I feel like the show focused a tad bit too much on that. But I did enjoy the fight scenes, and the story was kinda interesting. But I wouldn't pick it up again. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

I love ATLA and still watch certain episodes over and over again lol
My friend made a cute knitted Appa for my dog, I loved it (and Appa in general!)

I'm such a huge fan you have No. Idea. I watched the series as it was released on TV, and I've always loved it so so so much! I had a massive crush on Zuko when I was younger, but now that's kind of leveled out. My favorite characters of ATLA have always been Azula and Sokka, though. As for ships, Tokka and Kataang all the way. I've never cared for Zutara.

As far as LoK, still good, but not as perfect as the original series. I think because it was only going to be the first season initially, the characters were highly over-exaggerated, and it was hard to develop them more fully in later seasons. Korra's always had a lot of depth but only because she's the protagonist. I feel like Bolin turned into comic relief, and Mako was trying to hard to be the show's Zuko. And even though Korrasami is absolute perfection, I feel like Asami was a pretty flat character even in season 4. There were also a lot of questions that weren't answered that have been really bothering me since it ended. Still, the plots of each season were amazing. And the villains! Oh man!

I liked Korra better but I loved both. It was longer and even more intense and I loved experiencing everything 70 years after the war. The art style and new characters were amazing (except Prince Wu but sure I'm sure pretty much everyone ****ing hated him).

Whoa, a lot went on here.

Legend of Korra was terrible. That's just my humble opinion. Bending wasn't as beautiful or imaginative. It all just became a series of punches. Pro-bending was boring, especially when you compare it to the Earth Rumble arena fights in ATLA. Bolin felt like a discount Sokka. And Korra was an idiot and didn't even grow as a character. She was a homewrecker who RANDOMLY turned into a lesbian with the girl that she hurt by making out and pursuing her boyfriend. She ignored Bolin, who was much nicer to her from the beginning, in favour of Mako, who had a girlfriend and wasn't even nice to Korra at first. Basically, she is an entitled brat who acts impulsively and always gets her butt kicked. The storytelling was also very average. I wasn't engaged for most of it, and a lot of the time, it felt rushed and not well thought out. The moment Korra's bending was taken away, it was returned on the same episode, along with everybody else's. Anyway, I hope I haven't offended anyone. These are just the reasons why I think Legend of Korra is an embarrassment to the Avatar series. :(

I just wanted to say the series felt rushed because the creators weren't sure if each next season would be approved or not because of Nickelodeon's excessive meddling.

I'll have to greatly disagree on Korra's character. You're being way too harsh on Korra. Out of everyone in the series, she got the most development. The traits you describe on Korra are only applicable on Books 1 & and maybe the beginning of Book 2. If you're calling Korra a homewrecker, the same critique should apply to Mako honestly because he couldn't pick between them for most of the series. She apologized to Asami and Bolin after the quad triangle mess while Mako skirted around the issue the entire series. Aside from Book 1's initial awkwardness, she's always been shown to be compassionate to others. Book 1 had her defend non-benders and despite fearing Amon, she took him on anyway to defend everyone else. Book 2 had her not wanting to hurt Tarrok despite him kidnapping and wanting to murder her. She sympathized with him until being forced to attack back. Even when she defeated Unavaatu, she told him to go in peace. Book 3 had her assist someone who wanted to commit suicide and gave Kai more chances despite his betraying record. I'm not going to spoil people on Book 4 because there's so many examples throughout the entire series. Korra is a very, very different character at Book 4 vs Book 1.

That's a really disturbing comment to make on Korra given you watched the entire series. Unlike Aang, Korra was tortured throughout the series and went through depression and massive trauma. I'm not minimizing Aang's pain in any way because he def had to deal with being the last airbender and grieved. What he went through was horrible to lose everyone you knew. Korra on the other hand was brutally tortured many times which I don't agree it was necessary for her to go through for the sake of "character development". Like I said above, Korra's always been showing compassion and love throughout the series. With the exception of end of Book 3, Korra always prevailed (which duh, she's the Avatar). This is probably me nitpicking but I felt I needed to comment on this. ^^;

Great show, was fortunate enough to grow up watching ATLA - it was really amazing and its storytelling and character building stuck with me until this day to be honest. Haven't gotten LOK a chance yet, mostly because I want to leave the old story as it was.

i watched ATLA with a friend who loved it, and it was such a good show. enjoyable all through-out. even its "filler" episodes were amazing (that theatre one, for instance).

i really want to watch Korra, but i keep putting it off for some reason. i've even got the the on steam in anticipation of finishing it.

You should all give it a chance. It's a lot of fun with a lot of thrilling moments. :)

I LOVED Avatar: The Last Airbender so much! That show was amazing and I was a huge fan of Zuko from day 1! I cannot begin to describe how much I enjoyed his journey throughout the series! I will admit I was (and still am) a Zutara girl, but ah well! My other favorite characters were probably Iroh and Toph! All amazingly well done! ^-^

I will be honest. I never watched Korra, and I do not intend to do so. Hearing the synopsis and seeing the previews completely turned me off of the series. I do not like the steampunk-esque direction it went and it just wasn't for me. I'm sure it is a wonderful series though. I just prefer to keep the old world in my mind and don't want to see what happened in the future.

I agree, Zuko's journey was fantastic to watch. Iroh is wonderful, the world would be a better place if everyone had someone like him in their life. He is so inspiring. <3

I loved both to death, ATLA was my childhood lol

Finally someone who likes both series. <3

I agree, the emphasis on the love triangle was a bit much for me. Korra and Mako's as a couple kind of remind me of Rachel and Ross's relationship on Friends.

I love ATLA and still watch certain episodes over and over again lol

Aww, that sounds really cute! You should show us! :p

Azula was such a great villain! She was written extremely well. Have you read the comics on her and Zuko's mother?

Tokka was really cute! It's so underrated. Kataang is my favorite, I really enjoyed watching them together. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded if any ship happened among the Gaang. They all had wonderful dynamics with each other. <3

I agree completely on Bolin (I'm so sad he got the short end of the stick; he had so much potential than just comic relief ;^; ), Mako, and Asami (agreed on Book 4, we didn't get to see her as much). I feel like the show should have focused more on their group dynamic and have more time together. And same! There's so much we don't know. I'm hoping the comics can gear to more answers. I enjoyed the plots and villains every season. <3

Yesssss, I loved that LoK was far more unpredictable and had many twists and turns. Lmao I feel the same about Wu. He just seemed really unnecessary as a character tbh. I got the impression he mostly existed to give character development to Mako.

DUDE I've rewatched the ATLAB like 5+ times
it's one of my favorite shows oh my gaw

I like the old fashioned style of it, and plus the character development of some of the characters looking at you Zuko was really amazing. I can't even pick a favorite character because I love them all lmao
im just going to go with appa

I watched like 6 episodes of korra but I could never get into it because I thought the idea of "blood benders" was complete bs and I didn't like how she was naturally gifted in all four elements from the start because I loved aang's growth more than anything
I also just don't really like Korra's character either buuut I only watched like 6 eps so I can't say much

idk, I actually liked that season 1 focused on blood benders. I thought it was very fascinating when it was introduced in ATLA. It's so creepy. Korra gets a lot better. The first 5 episodes are pretty messy. I personally think the reason why she was good at everything but airbending from the get-go was because the creators weren't sure if they'd get approved for another season and to differentiate from Aang. Hope you enjoy LoK though! :)

I watched The Last Airbender religiously. I watched the entire first season of Korra but forgot about it. One night one of my friends told me a few plot points and spoilers. Sounded really good but honestly I don't think I'll ever sit down and watch it

I've seen all of Legend of Korra. I've seen a few episodes of Avatar the Last Airbender. At the time I refused to watch it because "not real anime" but a good show is good regardless of format. I just keep putting it off because I'm a lazy gamer with a full time job.

Well to be completely honest, I haven't watched Korra in maybe 3-4 years now, but I rewatched the first season recently, so maybe that's why these feelings are stronger. These are just the thoughts I was left with those years ago. I also think that Mako was absolute garbage for doing that to Asami, but I only brought Korra up because she was the one who ended up with Asami, and she just did not deserve her. I never said Korra wasn't compassionate at all, but she was always acting on impulse and disregarding the advice of the people who were wiser than her, acting as though she knew better than everybody else. To me, that was bratty and arrogant of her. Maybe if I rewatched the later seasons, I will change my mind, but as of right now, I have no intention of doing so.

Also, I just couldn't forgive Korra for doing that to Asami. She was perfectly aware that Mako and Asami were together, but she broke them up. Apology or not, Korra got away with it with no repercussions, and then ended up with Asami randomly after that. Homewreckers are very low on my list of people to respect, and after Korra fit into that role, I just didn't like her. I repeat also, that Mako is to blame as well, since he fell for Korra and did not break it off with Asami before making out with her, making him a cheater which I also hate. But as I said before, this is my criticism of the Asami/Korra relationship. I would still complain if Asami ended up with Mako.

It doesn't really matter why it was rushed, the point is that it felt rushed, which made the storytelling weak (again, just an opinion). It's unfortunate that the writers had that over their heads, but it doesn't change my feelings about the series.

As for her always getting her butt kicked, this is more a criticism of the choreography and bending in general. I have rewatched a lot of her battle scenes and they just weren't impressive. Remember, this is all subjective - purely my opinion. You might think otherwise, and that's great. In my opinion, however, ATLA showcased bending in a much more powerful, beautiful way that Legend of Korra could never beat.

Not sure if any of this clarified my thoughts or anything. I'm still extremely tired from lack of sleep :( I'm glad you enjoyed Korra. I really wanted to enjoy it too. I just didn't. I'm hoping that doesn't somehow make me a bad person. For some reason, I feel as though it makes me look like one. Lol.

Again, I don't think it's fair to base her entire character based on the first season. It's like only characterizing Zuko's traits from the first season and disregarding all his growth later on. The same applies to Korra. If you dislike her, fair enough, that's your opinion. I can't force you to rewatch the later seasons to see the amazing growth she has. I was just saying it's flawed reasoning.

I don't think you're a bad person at all. You're fine. XD I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. ^^;

I'm a little shocked on how many people dislike LoK or refuse to watch it. Ah well. =v=

I understand why you would think that :) I'll respectfully disagree with you for now, although one day I might give it another chance. I'm glad there are people who enjoyed it, like yourself. I don't even regret watching it, because the show did have some really cool moments. I think what's truly unfair is that people let themselves be hindered from watching the show based off of other people's opinions and already claim to dislike it without ever having given it a chance. I think that all ATLA fans should watch it and form their own opinions of it.
