I would really want one & would like to know how to start & where to buy & would love to see pictures of yours!

I love looking at them and I would love to have one and knit little plushies and clothes for my dolls, but they are too expensive for me. If I had money, I could see myself going crazy buying dolls. And cats. I'd be a crazy doll/cat lady that knits all day.

I know they're not "true" BJD's but I really love Pullip dolls, they can be customized and you can buy them tons of clothes and face-ups and everything so I like to consider them kind of like BJD's, which people also consider Blythe dolls to be. Both are a much more "wallet" friendly alternative, but still something to sink a ton of money into... I only have one Pullip so far, but I love her to pieces.

I took off the apron and her head piece and she looks like a regular goth Lolita now, and I love her so much. She's super pose-able and awesome!

If you're looking for real BJD I know there are some Etsy shops and eBay sells them as well, but you have to be wary and pay attention to their ratings as sellers. I love all the face-up Etsy accounts, there's a lot of really amazing ones who add so much depth and personality to the dolls. Most BJD's come plain or with very minimal blushing and make-up so usually you'll have to find someone to do a face-up on top of the already expensive doll, and a lot of them also sell heads and bodies separate which means even MORE money. And then you have to buy eyes, and wigs, and clothes too, so I mean, it's a money hole for sure, like most collectible items, but it's worth it in the long run, at least in my opinion.

i think bjds look so pretty
i wish i could have one but they're expensive af

The only BJD company I know of is crobidoll because I played Nameless ~The one thing you must recall XD

But they’re hella expensive idk if they all cost over a few hundred bucks

I don't have any true BJDs or any advice about getting started, but I do have some Pullip dolls, I love them because they are similar to BJDs but have a more cartoon-y stylization and are a lot cheaper (not cheap, but cheaper). I've always been curious about the idea of actually making a BJD, if you are into sculpting, I think it is a long and tedious process but it also may be a lot more affordable and rewarding.

SAME! I love working with clay and have made a few body sculpts in the past (not good one... lol) But it would be interesting to make a full doll, I've seen how they're put together usually with elastic cording holding the pieces in place so you can move them so it'd be a fun process to make each section of the body and then to get them all put together!

Im going to order a simple body & head And eyes from parabox & work on her makeup & wig & clothes myself. Im excited!

It depends on what you want.

There's basically 2 varieties of dolls that are considered BJDs nowadays. The original BJDs, which people are referring to as "true BJDs" in this thread, are strung and made out of resin. These dolls tend to cost anywhere between a few hundred dollars and over a thousand dollars, depending on size, quality, company, etc.

There's newer BJDs that are made out of vinyl and kinda snap together in various ways. They tend to be a lot cheaper because vinyl is cheaper to make. You can get them for anywhere between $100 and ~$800, again depending on size, quality, company, etc.

For the mentioned brands in this thread, Crobidoll is resin. Pullips and Parabox are vinyl.

I have some of each flavor and primarily have the stupidly expensive Volks dolls. Volks Super Dollfie lines are resin. Volks Dollfie Dream lines are vinyl. I also have an Azone doll. It's a vinyl. The Azone was by far the cheapest and only cost a little over $100 new. It's a PureNeemo and is about 23cm tall (about 9 inches).

You'll have to post some pics! I always watch face-up videos and I'm always like "I can totally do that!" but being faced with a blank... well, face, is really scary. Especially since I can't make things symmetrical to save my life. XD

Sooooo..... I started looking at dolls again since you posted this... and then I bought a real BJD... and now I need to buy my son an outfit... I only bought the doll and 2 pairs of eyes because Junky Spot (where I bought him) didn't have a lot of clothes and wigs in his size... I only ordered him but I'm already really stoked! I blame YOU for getting me back into it!!!!

He's a Mystic Kids Oscar doll. =D

I censored out his boy parts, and they blurred out the face because the face display has a face up and he does not have one.

It's been a long time coming XD It was only a matter of time. I'm scouting out faceup artists all over on etsy, tumblr, and insta trying to find someone who can do him justice, I have a specific vision in mind, not a name yet... but part of a story...

Ah, I never noticed a BJD thread on here before! I love Asian dolls in general (especially Blythe, I own 25!), and I currently have 2 BJDs. Here are pics of my kids:

They are both from a company called Miro Doll. They are a very affordable company, if you are just starting out.

So cute! I don't know why I don't really care for Blythes but I know they have a huge following... I think maybe their eyes and heads are just TOO big for me and it creeps me out a little. XD
