We all know this sucks but sometimes it's necessary. I'm trying to do this for the mush/maple diys. I have read where people say they just stand and listen for the whoosh sound but how? I mean you haver to be fairly close to hear it so I have to run back and forth and I usually see it first. And the running non stop gets old fast. I get bored and annoyed so quick with this now. Any tips?

Read the first post on this thread I made. Relying on the sound alone won't help much.

I have listed tips on how to grind balloons.

It helps to determine the direction of the wind and check at the times when balloons spawn (at :04 and :09). However, sometimes one won't appear, and it's still pretty tedious because running up and down the beach is the only way to ensure you find every balloon that appears.

If you have headphones in the whooshing sound is very noticeable, so that helps. And if you're really bored you could always stay in one spot, leave your headphones in, and work on or do something else so you're only playing once you hear a balloon. Quite a few should fly over even if you're just in one location. In fact, it often seems like the game at least occasionally spawns them in such a way that they fly over your character, but that's anecdotal.

Also anecdotal, but I agree with this! It seems like they always float over. I've never hunted for recipes so intensely like this before, but I do feel like time-travelling back to get some of the maple recipes.

The tips that were given was what I was doing. But I feel like the game wants you to do something rather than stand around. I was on for an hour just waiting for balloons to float by. Most of the time they weren't showing up. When I started to make some mush furniture at the DIY table, a balloon spawned and floated at the distance. Aside from that, I didn't have much luck today.

This is what worked for me: Time travel to daytime so Nooks is open, Go inside Nooks, select and item but don’t buy it (I also asked what the hot item was for good measure) go outside after the clock strikes :x4 or :x9, run to the beach then go up and down until you hear a balloon. Go back and repeat. I averaged one unique DIY an hour doing this (not missing a single potential spawn) but got lucky a few times

There seemed to be about a 70% successful spawn rate when I did this. Also headphones are pretty much mandatory. I tried to do it without them and the waves/wind sound too similar.

I don’t know about others, but my method is:

Go into Nooks, speak to the Nooklings.

Head to the beach for :04 or :09. Balloons spawn every 4th and every 9th minute, but you probably won’t see them until :05 and :10

Run up and down the beach listening for the sound and looking for the shadow.

Shoot the balloon down

Rinse and repeat. I don’t know why, but if I don’t talk to the Nooklings between each balloon then they sometimes don’t spawn.

Thirding the Nook's method detailed above. I found it works by going into my house and interacting with the craft table too, if your shop is in an awkward slot like mine.

In my experience, I just had to enter the Nookling's building then come out again, then when the time ends in a 5 there should be a balloon almost up to the beach. I never spoke to the Nooklings and it still worked most of the time. I tried going in my house or not going anywhere and the balloons didn't spawn.

Edit: By most of the time I mean every time except for once, but I think sometimes it just doesn't spawn. But in general I don't think you need to interract with anything in the store to get your balloon!
