Everyone who plays AC knows about balloons and the presents that they bring, but where do they come from?
Who or what attaches the presents to them and sends them floating into the wild blue yonder to be shot down mercilessly by our slingshots?

I always imagined that it was some sort of contraption that Nook had set up in order to entice villagers to go and buy slingshots from his stores.

Of course he filled it with the furniture and items that he had to repo from those that couldn't pay back their loans.

Intriguing (and funny) theory. :)

In City Folk, Phineas the sea lion states that balloons actually come from the sky. This statement, however, cannot be proven.

They're actually government weather balloons sent out to spy on your town and make sure you're not plotting anything. To prevent discovery of the program they use advanced nano technology to destroy most of the surveillance equipment and turn it into a pieces of furniture. They then use the makeshift furniture to spy on you in your own home. They're watching your every move at all times, even while you sleep.

This is a little creepy, and could also be the plot of a movie. May I please be an extra? :D

I always thought Tom Nook was a bit suspicious...

*spills drink* Hahahahaa, tiger! My vote for Post of the Day! %)

Similar to the weather balloon scenario:

Shape shifting aliens were looking for ways to infiltrate society and take over. They discovered that the population loved party balloons and therefore decided to use them to take over. They shifted themselves into furniture that they knew would bring ooo's and aahh's from the target population and tied themselves (neatly gift-wrapped, of course) to the balloons to be sent drifting over the village. Once popped, they would be taken into homes all over through trades and keeps. When no one is watching, they then shift back to a natural form and wreak havoc throughout the village.
