Hey guys! I feel like an old man but I'm somewhat of a newbie to the AC series. Pocket Camp was my first game to play, but New Horizons was my first real entry in the series, and I read and understand all the complaints about the game (and all the praise of course!). Hearing how older games were played and how more diverse the characters were was enticing to me, especially given that my driving factor for having any interest in a game is characters and story. That's why I love Banjo-Tooie more than Banjo-Kazooie!

Anyways, as I shared on the For those cool cats who are still playing WW thread, after waiting a grueling two weeks my cartridge came in!

So far, first impressions are...
  • Kapp'n is cool. Restarted the game a few times to answer the questions more truthfully, and to rename my village since Bearville didn't fit and I wasn't comfortable dropping the last e, so after some pondering I've chosen Bearwood!
  • Dig that the village starts off with 3 villagers, and didn't realize off the bat that they can be any villager type, not just jock/big sister like NH has, so I that also lead me to restart some times until I got a few that I was interested in. I have Cube, Mitzi, and Curt! I was really just hoping for a bear, but the three of them are all cool to have.
  • About to go start my part time job for Tom Nook, which I'm looking forward to.
  • Explored around first and met up with Booker and Copper. Booker already made me laugh. This is gonna be good.
Anyways, I'm excited to see what different features there are in this game versus what I've seen in PC and NH, and I'm most excited for the villager interactions. Still sad that Fang isn't in the game, but hey there are lots of lovable villagers for me to befriend.

Tom Nook is so bossy in this! I understand that I owe him money for the work he did but I have a good work ethic and he just assumes that I don't. I was 50/50 on his attitude in NH, but in that he just seems interested in making money and helping you out. He's determined to make you work for your house in this, which is admirable in a sense but I don't approve of how he's talking to me lol..

Also Cranky villagers are wayyyyy more cranky. Curt was super rude when I delivered his rug from Tom Nook, and it was almost comical but I also felt bad and wanted to be like "Look, today's my first day, it's not my fault that your rug was late." Oh well. Just more of a challenge to befriend!

Cube and Mitzi are pretty cool so far.

I'm gonna have to get used to going to Able Sisters to make designs, which apparently cost money, and I have none yet. I can't sell my shells yet either, and apparently they don't stack?

Was nice to see that I can make my own custom town theme though, and of course I matched mine from NH with my take on Spiral Mountain.

Samson just moved in, and I met Lyle. Seems like a sketchy fellow. I couldn't say no to his insurance scam so I had to say yes but didn't have enough to pay him. Also, today's my first flea market! I'm dirt poor still but hey it's something! Progress overall is a little slower than I was expecting, but I also don't recall the beginning of New Horizons... That was probably slow too.

Flea market was interesting, though I didn't have much so I didn't sell anything. Cube was the only one to come visit for the short time I played.

Met Joan today! I see the resemblance now. Interested in red turnips, but still too broke to try anything.

Finally got the net today. Fishing rod was in stock on the first day, and the shovel yesterday, so now I can really work on the museum. It wasn't clear at first that the cafe was in the museum, but when I was exploring the other day I did notice that, plus I found where Celeste is! I know you can do stuff with constellations but it hasn't been explained to me yet and I don't know exactly what it's for, so I'm going to focus on what I know for now and that's catching critters and making money.

Also, glad to be able to tell Celeste that she's cute, because hootie-toot that's a cutie-cute owl!

Had to deliver a letter...in 10 minutes?! Hot damn that was a rush to find Cube for Mitzi, but I'm digging these different interactions. Samson also asked me to review a letter he received from his "Secret Admirer" that compared his earlobes to plump grapes. Very odd and comical!

Oh and yesterday Curt and Mitzi were talking, what appeared to be a heated conversation, and when I stepped in Curt insisted that he's fought that fight a million times in his head. Mitzi goes "about cupcakes?" And so far that's the funniest thing I've heard. Apparently he was being overly aggressive about going over Mitzi's for cupcakes.

And now Mitzi is calling me B-puff! Oh boy. Color me excited!

I like that mail is delivered much faster. Seems to be about half a day. I sent some villagers mail with gifts yesterday morning and got responses in the afternoon.

Also met Resetti the other day, that was interesting. I just did it again just because, and he's quite the hilarious character.

Acorn festival today!

Bella has moved in!

I don't really care for any mouse villagers, but hey maybe I'll like Samson or Bella. Game doesn't give you a choice of who comes in, so it kinda forces you to commingle with characters that in other games (like NH) you wouldn't even give the time of day, which I actually like because you should never judge a book by its cover!

Learning that Blathers is rather bleak in this in regards to his opinions on bugs. Just gave him a ladybug and he said something along the lines of "People think they are cute, but I touched one once and some yellow fluid came out...all I can say is if that's cute then I don't know what's wrong with the world."

I'm admiring the simple variety in all the conversations I've already had with many villagers, multiple times a day, as well as the nice little variety in how fish swim, which makes fishing a little more interesting. If New Horizons had the villagers feeling more unique and less like copy-paste language for the same personalities, it would be a contender to replace Tooie as my favorite game ever. I wonder why they started going more generic.

Just did a personality quiz that Mitzi made up, and I'm apparently Pelly! She told me I shouldn't trust people's motives so easily though.

Finally paid off the loan! Conveniently, Tom Nook's shop will be closed tomorrow for expansion, so it's going to be a day of collecting acorns and chatting it up with villagers.

Cube gave me the striped shirt I gave him just yesterday, and same with Curt with the orange cone I mailed him. What's up with these guys, do they not like my presents?! Sheesh.

I'm enjoying reading about your Wild World adventures! The villager personalities are definitely my favourite aspect of that game, they're so much more dynamic than New Horizons and New Leaf. I like how they cycle more frequently as well. Also lol @ delivering a letter in 10 minutes, I failed that several times because I couldn't find the person.

Villagers walk SO MUCH! it's really hard to find anyone sometimes. They do exclaim for my attention a lot though which helps. Want to know something funny though? I have an 8 month old daughter who still naps a few times a day and two dogs. I can't play Wild World with the volume on because when the hourly bell chimes, one of my dogs thinks its a doorbell and barks like crazy, and I can't risk the baby waking up! So I have to be mindful of when I have the volume on, which is making me miss out on some things like finding bugs or catching fish, or hearing when villagers are exclaiming for me!

I'm glad you're enjoying reading this! Nice username! Cornimer is terrifying in a purely humorous sort of way. Reminds me of the acorn people from Conker's Pocket Tales.

After giving Cornimer 61 acorns, I got my first dresser! Looking forward to being able to store stuff finally!

Cyrano, an anteater I've never heard of before, has moved in!

Oh my, that dresser is a nice commodity to have! I like the custom organization, though the limited space will eventually be a problem, but I can at least put all this stuff away that I've been hoarding.

I love sending letters as I feel I can do it so much more easily than in NH. Curt also sends me the best letters.

Today is the day that Nook's store is going to be expanded, and having my dresser makes me all the more ready to take on the next loan! I'm excited.

Well now, Tom Nook's has turned into a super mini mart of sorts!

Also, fun little thing but these are the kinds of letters I like to send my Bearwood neighbors. Looking forward to the responses.

I forgot to mention, but Snake moved in yesterday! As much as I would have wanted some or all of the villagers in the town to be ones that I already know and love, I very much appreciate that most of the villagers I've never even interacted with in other games (of course outside of what you're forced to do to unlock items in pocket camp).

Curt approached me about buying an item and I told him I was extremely interested, and he gave it to me for free! It was an exotic bench, which I'm excited about. Snake also did something similar where he thought I forgot something in his house, and it was a lucky cat! Not only that, but yesterday I found a red sofa in the recycling! I'm getting pretty lucky with these items. Though right now, my house is mostly mush stuff.

Bella's song is K.K. Metal?! That's awesome.

Much to my surprise, Samson is moving! Didn't even ask me. Hmm, oh well.

Ah, I understand now. They pack up in boxes and if you happen to visit them and they're in that state, you can convince them to stay or let them leave. Very interesting, and happened pretty quickly so that's even more interesting. Hopefully this means I can get some good cycling of villagers going on.

Also Cube is sick! He's a penguin but he's cold... Got to get him some medicine!

Curt had fleas! Ahaha!

According to Cyrano, I'm snail-like, which is a compliment! These animals are weird man.

Samson is apparently still moving out. Also I'm already starting to feel a sense of aloofness within the game. I don't know what I'm supposed to do aside from make money every day to pay off my loan, and collect acorns for the Acorn Festival. I've been sending letters and talking to both Sable and Brewster every day too. Hmm... I'll keep on chugging.
