We all know duping ruined an aspect of New Leaf. If you weren't duping willingly, you did it out of necessity to keep up with the trading market. I was apart of the problem. Just logged into my New Leaf town to take a trip down memory lane and I had 40,000,000 bells in the bank. Capitalist scum, I was.
I remember the night I decided to start duping. I was losing a bid auction for Blue Bear. I was on the Island frantically catching beetles so I could win my dreamie but of course, the other bidder out did my best efforts.
That night the game got ruined for me just a little. I was genuinely working for something and that was fun! But when you are up against essentially, cheaters, it's no longer fun.

I'm not taking a holier than thou approach, I understand people were doing it just to keep up. It was honestly a game design flaw. People will do things if they can. It's the way the news goes. I did. I duped with friends all night and there wasn't a piece of furniture, or top tier villager I couldn't afford. That part was cool but I kind of lost interest in the game not too far after.

With New Horizons, I have a feeling Nintendo will be stricter when it comes to manipulating the game. I get this idea because of the new cloud save feature. Nintendo wants this game to be played how it's meant to be played. As do so many of us. We will work for our things. We lost a really important part of the game that we will finally get back and I think that's really good for the longevity and lifespan of Animal Crossing.

EAT THE RICH.

I've never duped.
I wouldn't know how.

All my bells were earned.

As for manipulating anything, I do time travel, and I hope we still can.

Time travel is a must for some people.

I tried to dup but never managed to get the timing right xD I never had much problems with the inflation because we traded with the new currency(tbt) but I totally get your point.

Duping was in every AC possible if I am correct and I am sure people will find yet again a way to dup ^^ Don't know how they manage to figure stuff like this out but they do and I am sure duplication will be a thing again. It will be more difficult with autosave but not impossible. But it will take some time and I am sure we will be safe from inflation for a year or two :)

I suppose you’re right. Well I’ll take a year break over nothing. But my duping timing ain’t what it used to be. I’m old and tired now.

Oh I time traveled all the time. I don’t care about that much as it doesn’t affect other people’s games as inflating currency does.

I didn't dupe either, although it happened accidentally for one piece of furniture when the game crashed. I'm super patient and hate cheating, I have no interest when things are too easy. I earned a lot of money selling island stuff in the right time, bought villagers with TBT, I wasn't interested in collectibles then.

I never duped as well. I got Like 50 million from turnips. But I did time travel to buy turnips and found someone on here with a high turnip price to sell at.

I never duped, part because I wouldn't know how to the other part I felt like I would be cheating. As frustrating as paying off mortgages are, I do enjoy catching bugs and sharks and harvesting my fruit trees (so glad about the perfect fruit in nl hope it's in NH). I feel accomplished when I do, there's no better feeling paying off a mortgage knowing you worked hard for it. Just wish rl mortgages could be paid in bells :D

Duping wasn?t the only cause of inflation. People also took advantage of the Stalk Market. And let?s not forget about the beetle farming and shark harvesting on the island. But duping is largely responsible, and it wasn?t intended to be in the game.

Excluding Pocket Camp (Possibly?), No Animal Crossing game in history has ever had cloud saves. This won't stop duplication. Hackers will always file a way to hack or dupe. The only difference this time is that Nintendo can easy patch exploits as needed.

Not only that, but Nintendo is also getting aggressive against cheating. Anybody caught cheating will get banned from online play. They would also not take ban evasion too kindly.

i feel like duping won’t be possible with the new autosave feature and honestly? i’m kind of relieved. i used to dupe alot and while it was fun and helped me out a lot, i don’t think it’s something that i want to do again lol

I'm excited for a game with a fresh economy too! Inflation will always happen since Animal Crossing's economy is a positive-sum game, but hopefully it will happen much slower in New Horizons than it did in previous games.

Edit: It's also worth nothing that since New Horizons seems more centered around crafting than Bells, it might encourage item trading rather than purchasing with Bells. We'll know more once the game comes out though.

Duping will still be possible in New Horizons. If you have a modded system, just make a backup of your save data before trading stuff to another system.

Never duped. Still had a lot of bells though -- maybe 75 mil? All from trading a few villagers and more largely, the stalk market. I look forward to getting "rich" and earning that amount throughout the course of this new game through the same methods. It'll be nice if everyone has to make their wealth organically in this one. I always felt kind of cheated after working so hard for all of my bells when prices went so high.

I only remember duping for the fun of it until the novelty of it had worn off. Did it a lot in the City Folk days and have no shame in doing it either. I'm not bothered at all whether it's still possible or not, you'll get cheaters with every game I suppose no matter how much you try and stop them.

I still want the ability to time travel with the new game though as I'd like to revisit past events that I may miss from a busy life schedule, not all of us have time to sit and play everyday.

I am really hoping people don't find a way to dupe items and Bells in New Horizons. There's certainly going to be a good way to earn Bells in New Horizons, but when you add glitches to basically create infinite money... it really did kill New Leaf's online economy. It basically turned into a forum currency market because Bells had such little value! The hacking tools on the 3DS didn't help much, either. And Switch can have hacking tools, but its much harder to do and also much more riskier.

Here's hoping New Horizon's economy can stick to in-game Bells!

Ive never duped... I didn't know it could be done and just enjoy working for my own bells ☆〜(ゝ。∂)
I found out about it online but it never really interested me...

Huh, sort of off-topic but it's interesting how intense getting dream villagers was. I didn't know people auctioned them like that, or that there was a "tier" system. I was off playing in my own little world until recently.

How can you even manipulate a save file, let alone an auto save file? Unless they allowed copying of save files (which they don’t), had another switch with another copy of the game or possibly even hacking software (via a modded switch), you’d always come back to the manual save/auto save files with where you left off...or maybe I’m just ignorant with how it can be done....

I only duped flower/bush starts to help out an a acquaintance in 2016 before she was hounded off by a jerk (I really miss her...)

Regardless, I made money when I needed it, and in 5 years I made 155 million bells, part of it coming from trading turnips in other towns, beetle/shark farming, selling items when Reese listed it on the board and I used to use the bell boom ordinance in the beginning before switching to the “Keep our town beautiful” one (never used the night owl or early bird one)

I tried out duping but it was for four-leaf clovers that I wanted for my town. I maxed out my bells using the Stalk Market but I'll be more relaxed about it for New Horizons, I don't even want to rush to upgrade my house.
