hey guys i cannot find the best buy thread where it said how to do this, but i was in best buy yesterday and tried to street pass but i did not get the downloadable content

my ds recognized i was in a nintendo zone, but that was about it, and i couldnt connect to the internet there

im pretty sure the content would be there because in the 3ds section it had a poster that had all of the content and what dates you could get them

also when trying to connect to their internet it was not called best buy, i was reading on another thread that to get it at home just change your router name to best buy

anyway idk, does anyone know how am i missing something

thanks

When at the store you go into the Nintendo Zone app and connect to Best Buy. Then you go into your game, visit the PO and ask about a present.

yeah i could not connect because i was not able to get on their internet, i figured i would have to connect but i wasnt able to, the wifi wasnt pass protected i just kept getting errors

Not ALL Best Buys have the dlc. They're all nintendo zones, but only some of them give away DLC.

You can also change your SSID on your wifi to Bestbuy and then you should get the items, then you can change it back. I figured I would try this tomorrow, although I am not sure it will still be ongoing then.

yeah i was thinking about doing that, but at bestbuy their wifi wasnt even called bestbuy so that probably could have been why i couldnt download it

Yea its supposedly case sensitive Bestbuy and people have already used this trick and gotten it. Not every best buy is participating and that may be why their ssid didn't match.

Some Best Buys just have lazy employees who don't do the work of setting up their Nintendo Zones! Yup, I went to my local Best Buy today and they DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A NINTENDO ZONE! I'm kind of considering reporting them to Nintendo, if there's possibility of doing that because it was very misleading there. The Nintendo Zone website says there's a Zone at this Best Buy, there are posters advertising what things you can get for what games through their Zone, but the thing just isn't setup! I asked an employee what gives and he just shrugged and walked away! And I can't even justify making a trip up to the next closest Best Buy (it's almost 50 mi away) just to get some item for a game... god, I hate living in this podunk town!!!!

Same thing. I went to two different best buys and I couldn't connect to their wifi, neither of them seemed to be nintendo zones. There was even a poster about the DLC! I'm so mad. I really wanted that clock. Somebody should just order me one. I'll pay full price. Heck, I'll even pay double.

All you have to do is change your SSID to "Bestbuy" exactly how I just typed it minus the quotes.

I turned off my security on it too just to be safe and it worked fine for me. You do NOT need to connect to the Nintendo Zone app and it will not work on the Nintendo Zone app...just connect to the "Bestbuy" SSID, get on New Leaf, go to the post office and claim your gift.

I realize people are saying it doesn't work for them but they're clearly doing something wrong because the only thing that you need is an Access point with an internet connection that's exactly named "Bestbuy", you could do it with tethering on your phone lol.

Does anybody know if you have to have the security for your connection turned off? Because I just tried doing it by tethering with my phone, it doesn't have the option to turn off security though, and it didn't work for me. :( Named the connection Bestbuy and everything... sigh.

Edit: I've already gotten impatient with this exploit and I decided it's unacceptable that this failure of a store should get more Nintendo customers through the door with false promises of Nintendo Zone promotions, so I decided to report them to Nintendo's customer support. It might not amount to anything for me, but at least they could take down the store's location from the Nintendo Zone locator so that others can avoid wasting their time like I wasted mine!

My router doesn't let me put in spaces...sigh and _TheCloud doesn't work....isn't that the company ran by BSkyB? I really thought it would work....Sky are my ISP too

Us Europeans don't even get our own exclusive dlc....sigh

Whoa, okay, calm down just a bit. Insane, you have until the 29th to claim this DLC. Let's figure this out before then:

You can have a security key for 'Bestbuy' or you can leave it open. If your 3DS is finicky, just make up a Network key & use this to login to the 'Bestbuy' Network.

Note- you'll need to delete or simply create a New Connection inside your 3DS Internet Settings (under the System Settings icon). Select 'Search for Access Point' then choose 'Bestbuy' & finally enter your Network key. That should do it! My sig has some more details if you require it, Insane. Or, you can reply here & I'll try to answer any specific questions you may have!

Good luck & enjoy the weekend! 8)

'_TheCoud' doesn't have spaces. Have you tried tethering via a smart phone?

Well it doesn't really matter now, I already wasted the gas going up to Best Buy and it's not cool to me that they didn't even try to explain the false advertising to me. Besides, Nintendo deserves to know whether their business partners are doing their half of the work or not... -_- (I hate Best Buy anyway, in case you couldn't tell lol)

If you could offer any new suggestions, I'd be ever grateful, but I did already try what you had written on your thread (well, other than trying to change my router's SSID, I no longer have a working computer so I don't have that option available). My 3DS would connect to the wifi through my tethered phone, but Pelly in the Post Office just didn't acknowledge that there was dlc available through this sort of Nintendo Zone exploit. Not sure what else I could be doing wrong...

I will give it a try again with my Sky hub.
Edit: I now have a Nintendo Zone icon on my 3DS,
So we're getting somewhere! Thanks!

Hi Insane! Sorry, this thread got away from me or else I would have replied earlier. Just to clarify:

1. In your tethering settings (creating a hot spot) you named the Network 'Bestbuy' right? Also, set the security options to 'Open' ...you may have to create a password IF the steps below do not work.

2. Now the 3DS can ONLY save 3x different connections, therefore if those three are occupied w/ Network settings for your house, work, Starbucks for example- delete the Starbucks connection as the other two are more relevant.

3. Now that you have an open slot to 'create a new connection' it should start by scanning for a new Access Point- if the settings were done correctly on your cell, 'Bestbuy' should be listed.

4. Select 'Bestbuy' & start the Nintendo Zone app. Allow it some time to download some files & after a bit, start New Leaf.

5. Speak to Pelly!

Good luck, Insane! I'll PM you just in case this thread gets buried. =D
