With Pok?mon Sword and Shield coming out this November, I would like to ask you guys on which Pok?mon games were the best of Gen 7? Would it be the original Sun and Moon, the improved version, or the spin-off games Let?s Go Pikachu and Let?s Go Eevee? You should also explain why you think they are the best of the generation.

Pokemon Sun/Moon easily. New for their time, cool stuff introduced like z-moves and ultra beasts. Some good trainer customization options. Good batch of new Pokemon and a new twist on beating the game with trials and grand trials instead of gyms, while still having the elite four and champion to beat. I can say for sure that I spent more hours on Sun/Moon than Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, and I didn’t even touch Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s go Eevee because they don’t usually appeal to longtime Pokemon fans like myself. :)

“Improved” pfffft. Storyline for USUM was awful imo. LThey should have done a sequel, featuring Lillie’s return from Kanto, cover her father’s disappearance, and tbh have Faba be the main villain and have him seek revenge by manipulating Necrozma. Just me.

Story wise: Sun/Moon
Post-game wise: Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon

Sun/Moon definitely. Especially since previous games before that only took me hours to beat (even though I dived into the story and such)
Sun/Moon's story was pretty cool, and I definitely need to replay it before Sword & Shield :)

I voted for Let?s Go Pikachu and Let?s Go Eevee for a reason.

It may be a remake as the first generation doesn?t need another remake, but I have favored simpler gameplay as the ages rolled by. It was a major improvement to the original game while it didn?t follow the same problems Pok?mon Sun and Moon had. The only problem is that they released it as a remake rather than the original version.

I never played Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon but I think it'd be the best of gen 7 tbh. It's quite literally Sun and Moon but with more stuff to do so that makes it better, right?

Let's Go is a joke to me lmao I hate it and now that Sword and Shield is absolutely trash I think I'm actually over Pok?mon now

Oh well

Sun/Moon 100% that was the last pokemon game that I was actually excited about releasing. I like the new player character designs and their customization options. I thought all the new pokemon were pretty cool, too. The trial/grand trial way of playing was also pretty neat, especially since they only changed some aspects of how to play the game (keeping the e4/champion battles is a good thing). My only real complaints about the game were all about the festival plaza, ugh. I didn't like the story of USUM very much, would rather have seen a sequel with Lillie or Faba as someone else mentioned. I don't have a Switch so I haven't played Let's Go, but I watched a playthrough of them and to me they just seemed "easy mode". I understand that children are the "target" of the pokemon titles, however I feel Let's Go simplified things too much and seemed more like a spinoff than a main series game.

From the games listed on this poll, I only played Sun/Moon. Personally, I didn't enjoy these games that
much, in general, I'm not such a big fan of Gen 7. Sure, there are some Pokemon I like from this Gen,
however, overall, it would be one of my least Gens. Hence of why I never bother with Ultra Sun/Moon
after all.

As for Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, I actually wanted to try out these games for a while now, but I'm not
sure if it's worth it.

I prefer Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon over original Sun and Moon, and I was never interested in purchasing Let's Go! Pikachu/Let's Go! Eevee so those aren't even in the running.

While Sun and Moon had the better story, it's not like the stories in the Pok?mon games are anything groundbreaking anyway. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon had more to do and brought new things to the table. Mantine Surfing has a bit too many hazards to trip you up but is a great way to farm Battle Points to use for the Move Tutors, which are themselves generally a great selling point for second installments like Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon and Black 2/White 2. I liked the new Ultra Beasts introduced, especially Blacephalon who I plan to shiny hunt in the future. There's more to do in the postgame, you can hunt as many Ultra Beasts as you want (aside from just the two Stakataka/Blacephalon in US/UM respectively) and shiny hunt, and some egg moves were added to Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.

Even if the story in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon was weaker, and it unfortunately was, it was still a more enjoyable experience for me. I bought both Sun and Moon when they released and played Moon first because I prefer Lunala and, honestly, I found it to be pretty underwhelming. It seemed too easy, I was caught off guard by how short it felt, and the removal of Super Training from the previous generation really messed with my enjoyment. I eventually learned how fast and easy it is to EV Train with the Power Items when combined with Pok?rus before I began my Ultra Moon run, but yeah. I intend to do a playthrough of Sun after I breed a team to use in it so that I can see how I like it now that I'm more accustomed to things like the Festival Plaza, but I'm not really expecting much.

I generally tend to favor the second/third installments over the originals when it comes to Pok?mon games because of the addition of move tutors and the like, so this case was no different.
