For me it's Unova > Johto > Hoenn > Sinnoh > Kalos > Kanto

Kanto messed with my head when I was a kid, I prefer linear. And Unova has just about everything.

Hoenn is actually in the lead right now, nice! It wasn't last time I checked.

I'm a Hoenn Girl for Life! <3

Johto. Pokemon Silver got the most playtime out of all of my pokemon games (how its battery is still working after all these years, I have no idea). I'm not sure why I liked it so much...I know one reason was because the starters didn't evolve to dual-types (chikorita stayed grass, totodile stayed water, and cyndaquil stayed fire), another...I guess I just liked the region, and all the things to do once the game was completed.

With the rematch/call system, less grinding was needed to level pokemon properly, though there still was some necessary (I hate grinding), and though the plot wasn't as interesting as B/W, it was interesting to see what became of Team Rocket when they lost their leader.

Kanto: Maybe it's just overexposure at this point, but I don't find Kanto to be that remarkable these days. It's not bad, and I feel affection for it due to my fond memories watching the anime and playing Red, Blue, and Yellow as a child but it's not one of my top favorites. It was nice to be able to come back in Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver for another run through the Indigo League so as to collect 16 badges, though.

The original Lavendar Town and the ever memorable Pok?mon Tower are among my favorite places in series, especially when they have the original song playing. Celadon City, Fuchsia City, and Saffron City are the other standouts. Celadon City and its Game Corner, Department Store, and little body of water where you can surf and encounter Grimer and Muk. Fuchsia City and its unique layout, (former) Safari Zone, and access to the Cycling Road. Saffron City for Sabrina's gym, the Fighting Dojo next door to it, Copycat, the Magnet Train station, and Silph Co. Mt. Moon was fun to visit on Monday nights to witness a group of Clefairy dancing around a meteorite. The Power Plant and Pok?mon Mansion are also good, and I have to acknowledge Cerulean Cave as being pretty good too for being the place where you encounter Mewtwo.

Oh, and the Sevii Islands were a nice surprise.

Johto: Strong contender here. With Generation II and its remakes, HeartGold and SoulSilver, being among my favorite games in the series, I find Johto to be fun to travel around. It has nice, unique locales like the Burned Tower and Bell Tower and the place they're found in, Ectruteak City, Goldenrod City and its Magnet Train and Radio Tower, the Lake of Rage, the Moomoo Farm, the National Park, Mt. Silver, Olivine Lighthouse, the Pok?athlon Dome, the Ruins of Alph, and the Whirl Islands where you find Lugia.

It is also the home region of the Apricorns and Kurt, the Pok? Ball maker, who creates the unique styles of Pok? Balls like Moon Balls and Love Balls. Plus, it's the only region outside of Yellow (and the Let's Go games for the Switch) where your Pok?mon can follow you outside of their Pok? Ball. It's just an overall beautiful, fun to traverse region that I'd love to see given the 3D treatment despite already having a remake.

Hoenn: A good region with a lot of diverse environments. Fortree City, Mauville City, Pacifidlog Town, and Sootopolis City are all quite unique and fun. Mt. Chimney is cool and Mt. Pyre is one of my favorite locations in the series. Route 113 and its constantly falling, collectible ash is a very memorable and fun route. I like the Ancient Tomb, Desert Ruins, and Island Cave for being the places where you encounter the Regi trio and Regigigas since they're among my favorite Legendary Pok?mon groups. As such I'm also fond of the Sealed Chamber for its braille gimmick and for unlocking access to the Regis. Meteor Falls is a pretty aesthetically pleasing place. Sea Mauville is also a pretty interesting place to visit.

Pok?Nav Plus was an awesome aspect of the Hoenn region for letting you rebattle trainers you already defeated with teams that scale a good degree to give you increased difficulty and it's a nice way to farm experience and money. Secret Bases are also great for allowing you not only to decorate your space not only as you see fit, but also for permitting you to choose from a myriad of different locations and for giving you a decent selection of items to display. Being able to set up your own rudimentary gym for friends and other players from around the world to challenge is crazy.

Sinnoh: I honestly can't speak much to how much I properly like or dislike Sinnoh and its locales because the slow pace the game (I played Platinum instead of Diamond and Pearl) ran at, especially the longer save times, made the game less enjoyable for me so I've never really been able to give it a fair shake. I look forward to the probable, eventual remakes that should come in the next few years so that I can properly see what all the excitement is about. That said, there are some things I like about the region. I like the fog that shows up in this region and I'd like to see it more often elsewhere. I like Lake Acuity, Lake Valor, and Lake Verity for being the homes of Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit. I also quite like Eterna Forest and the Old Chateau found within it where you can find the Rotom and ghosts of former occupants.

I hear the Underground was quite popular, but I didn't have the capability of connecting my DS Lite to wi-fi so I never got to use it. Just another reason to look forward to the remake, I suppose.

Unova: Another very strong contender. Generation V is one of my favorites personally, so the region is interesting for me. I've seen people complain about it just being a big circle, but I don't mind that at all. Black City and White Forest are fun concepts albethey a bit shoddily implemented. Castelia City and its Sewer are great. The Strange House located outside Lentimas Town, at the base of Reversal Mountain, is fun too and is another of my favorite locations in the series. The Desert Resort, Relic Passage, and Relic Castle are nice to explore and it was fun discovering Volcarona down in the depths of Relic Castle. I like the Moor of Icirrus, the Giant Chasm, and Abundant Shrine. The Abyssal Ruins was nice to explore for its lore and because of the interesting gimmick it had with the step count. The Victory Roads in both the original Black and White and in Black 2 and White 2 were both great.

As for unique aspects not found in other regions, the Battle Subway and Pok?mon World Tournament were fun. The Pok? Transfer lab was an improvement over past iterations of sending Pok?mon up through the generations. Also, the dream stuff with Fennel giving a tie in to the Dream World on the Pok?mon official website was a pleasant way to spend some time and earn Pok?mon with Hidden Abilities, though it could be a bit stingy at times.

Kalos: It might be a bit unfair to compare to previous generations since it was the first region to have the benefit of the graphical leap to 3D, but the region is gorgeous. Lumiose City is wonderful not only for all there is to do, like the Hotel Richissime job or the salons for both you and your Furgrou, but also because it being a big circle made it a nice place to hatch eggs. The area around Camphrier Town is particularly memorable to me because it's right near Route 7/Rivi?re Walk, the home of the Day Care couple, the Berry fields, and the Battle Chateau, and it is also near Parfum Palace, a place where I liked to hatch certain Pok?mon just so it would say they were hatched there and in its own right is fairly pretty. I love the way Route 14, the route connecting Lumiose City to Laverre City, looks although traversing it is a bit of a hassle. Laverre City is one of my favorite looking cities since it looks rather autumnal and I like the way they designed the gym. The Lost Hotel had a nice look to it. I like Dendemille Town and the surrounding snowy areas of Route 17 and the Frost Cavern. The sundial in Anistar City is nice to look at. Glittering Cave was enjoyable to explore and I liked being able to find not only Tyrunt and Amaura fossils there, but also fossils from the past generations by using Rock Smash depending on whether you had X or Y. Snowbelle City has a nice look to it, and the Victory Road and the Pok?mon League are both good.

The clothing stores making their debut in these games was amazing, as was the aforementioned salon where you could change the color and style of your hair. The Battle Maison, when it was actually in Kalos, was fitting, cute, and kind of fun. The Battle Chateau having that unique gimmick of earning different titles and being able to challenge increasingly more difficult trainers (including Gym leaders) was a nice touch and helped with leveling up team members. I love working at Hotel Richissime to pay for the clothing at the various stores. The PR Video Studio, while limited, is something I actually found myself getting enjoyment out of. Riding around on stuff like Rhyhorn and Gogoat was neat, but it was disappointing that it was only in specific areas. I also really loved the Player Search System, Pok?mon-Amie, and Super Training set-up present in this region and I'm especially disappointed that Super Training was wholly removed in Alola.

Alola: A visually appealing region, though for as fun as the Island Trial is, I probably would have preferred if there were still Pok?mon Gyms. Po Town and the Shady House found within are another example of some of my favorite locations in the series. Hau'oli City, Malie City and Konikoni City look nice enough. Malie Garden was nice looking enough and sticks out in my mind for being the place where you first battle the fantastic Guzma. Seafolk Village certainly has a unique look to it with the different Pok?mon-inspired boats, and it gets some points for being the only place you can find Dhelmise. The abandoned Thrifty Megamart location housing Mimikyu and other Ghost-types is a nice little place, and the actual Thrifty Megamart is a pleasant little place too with the checkout lines. Lush Jungle is a nice touch. Mount Hokulani is nice to traverse. Vast Poni Canyon looks good and the section of Poni Island that leads up to the Battle Tree is fun. Mount Lanakila is nice and I like that the snow sets it apart from the other mountains present in Alola. The Pok?mon League is great in my book for being at the peak of Mount Lanakila.

When it comes to the unique locations and features, Festival Plaza is a good attempt and has some nice aspects but feels too clunky and bloated compared to Kalos' system of friend management. Pok? Pelago is pleasant enough. The Battle Tree and Battle Royal Dome are both cool concepts.

I'd probably rank the regions thusly:

Kalos > Unova > Johto > Hoenn > Alola > Kanto > Sinnoh

It was a tough choice between Kalos and Unova, but I think I was just swayed by the 3D environments, trainer customization, and Super Training that were all either found only in Gen VI or introduced there.

Unova was really a winner for me. I absolutely loved the city aesthetic they had. I loved a lot of the poison pokemon and improvement that they had at that point because I felt like the poison type was so lackluster at the very beginning. I loved that Striaton Gym had originally 3 different type of gym leaders at once, and I definitely liked N. I loved what they introduced in Black2/White2 but I was sad I didn't actually get to play it.

Roxie was pretty beast. I just really loved all of it. xD;

Probably Johto, imo. There's just so many beautiful and memorable areas, such as Ecruteak City, Bellchime Trail and the Bell Tower, the Lake of Rage, Blackthorn City, the Whirl Islands, Cianwood City...I can go on and on. It's home to some of the best Legendary Pokemon, such as Ho-Oh, Lugia, the roaming beasts...and while it's not a Legendary, finding the Red Gyarados for the first time was a very memorable moment for me. Even fighting Sudowoodo was a very memorable moment. All around, Johto's just a fun region to travel around and it has some of the most beautiful and memorable areas in the series. Easily my #1.
