Breeding hybrids (or any flower) - do we need two of the same type, or will just one spread into more on its own?

Feel like I read something about one flower being able to spread into multiple in this version but may be totally wrong! So for the purpose of my hybrid breeding, do I need to place at least two flowers together for them to breed, or will it work with just one? Please and thanks!

yea you can just place down a flower on its own and water it. it'll produce a clone of it eventually.

To breed flowers, you'll need two flowers next to each other. However, new to this game is the ability to clone flowers. Cloning flowers requires any given flower to be alone and not touching another flower of the same species. A cloned flower will be, well, an identical clone to the parent flower.

So to get new hybrids that involve mixing genes, you still need to breed. You'll never get a Black Rose by just cloning Red Roses. However, getting extra copies of any flower you choose can be done through cloning.

I'd recommend checking out some of the guides on this page!

Awesome thanks both! Think that makes sense but will check out that link :D Will be really handy with certain hybrids I've still only got one of!

Yep, that's definitely a plus to cloning! Instead of waiting to breed a pair of hybrids, it's usually faster to just clone the first hybrid you get. It's also useful on the pathway to breeding Blue Roses to get very specific breeding pairs.

I'm guessing you're used to NL hybrid breeding? I do recommend checking out the link I gave, in that case. All the hybrid mechanics have been datamined, and we've learned that things we're used to doing for breeding in previous games isn't necessarily the best. For example, I think most of us used the checkerboard plot when breeding in past games, and people discovered that it's not a good pattern to use, especially now that cloning exists. For the harder-to-get hybrids (Blue Roses, Green Mums, etc.), it's also important to learn how to make plots that prevent cloning, and so on and so forth.
