I am trying really hard to breed a snivy with the hidden power type I want but I get the same damn types everytime. It's mostly steel but also dark and dragon. I got like one electric and and bug. I've bred like 3 boxes now and gotten the same types over and over again. Can anyone tell me why this is? :/

Steel, steel, steel, dark, dark, dragon, steel, dragon, steel, dark, dark, steel, steel.

Can someone please explain this to me? It's getting annoying!

I can explain this. But it is tricky to understand a bit. You know how people usually breed for perfect 31 IVs which we cannot see their number because it is a coding, right? It depends on said IVs. Hidden power uses these IVs mechanic to determine its typing. If all IVs are perfect 31, it will always end up being a dark type hidden power. Making it perfect for a few Pok?mon weak to ghost.

Now, for the rest of the types, well, that is the complicated part. You will require a lot of math as you need probably these two charts in order to understand it.

In this picture shown, you will see these weird numbers that are dependent on IVs. Again, since you cannot see the number of a Pok?mon's IV, this will be hard. Usually, people use calculators like these: MetalKid's Gaming resource, and Serebii's. These two link will take you to a calculator that people use the moment they get the only perfect stat they need. For example, an Alakazam with 31/any even number/30/31/30/31. This means his best stats are HP, Special Attack, and Speed. This also mean he will be told by the guys who judges your Pok?mon's stat. Now he wants to make sure the others are even numbers since, again, he will not be able to see the exact IVs numbers. So the user has to train the Alakazam to at least level 50 exactly and not a level more or less in order to see his IVs spread on the calculator. Because the moment the Pok?mon reaches level 50, you must put on the calculator the current stats it has by then. Then the calculator analyzes and tells you the IVs spread. If it did come out with the correct spread, then he will get the Hidden Power type he wants. If you would like more proof on Hidden Power, you'll have to calculate with this method: Starting from 0, you will add number if the IVs is an odd number. If Sp. Defense IV is an odd number, add 32. If the Special Attack IV is odd, add 16. If the Speed IV is odd, add 8. If the Defense IV is odd, add 4. If the Attack IV is odd, add 2. And if the HP IV is odd, add 1. Now Alakazam's odd numbered IVs are Special Attack, HP, and speed. So we add 0+16=16+8=24+1=25. If you look at the picture from before, those from a range of 21 to 25 points ends up having Hidden Power Bug type.

Now in here, you will see a spread usually needed for ice and the most convenient spread most of the time.

Try calculating this on your own to see if you got the math part down.

Now I will say this is not something easy to explain and it is even much harder to actually achieve as we all apparently want a 6 IVs Ditto. But guess what? Having a 6IV ditto with all stats perfect will only result in getting you Dark type Hidden Power and any other Hidden Power close to it if the Pok?mon does not end up having all 6 IVs perfect. I recommend if you will attempt getting someone with Hidden power, make sure it is a Ditto with 30 IVs on all stats instead.

Man, I wish I had the patience for Hidden Power, but this is a very advanced breeding mechanic and can be very frustrating. If you have any question, I will search a video that explains this much better for you.

Okay I didn't read it all lol but I do see what you are saying. My two breeders are a flawless iv ditto and a 5 iv snivy. I haven't done IV breeding in a while so I didn't think HP was based off of something as simple as odds and evens. I am trying to get HP Fire but I guess it's not possible with the amount of 31 IVs I have, considering HP Fire can only have so many odds. :/ It's lame as hell though cause it just makes IV breeding more difficult.

So what do you suggest I do instead? Throw in a 4 iv snivy instead? Idk if I can even find a ditto with 30 IVs lmao

You got me there, unfortunately. I have never been able to successfully breed a well made Hidden Power Pok?mon with any pokemon as it takes too much time and patience. I even tried breeding without the Destiny Knot to see if it lowers a stat or not. It didn't go well. My apologies if what I am saying now is a bit of a let down. If only cracking the Hidden Power mechanics was a bit simpler, I would have added Hidden Power grass on a few fire types that doesn't learn any Grass type moves.

Yea what makes it even more difficult is the fact that I need to get it to breed the HA as well. -____- fml lol

Well thanks for the help though

Oh, goodness, I've done this for a competitive Amoognuss back in Black/White to get HP Ice.
Let's just say it was a LOT LOT harder back then without Destiny Knot and with varying Base Powers based off of the same IVs. It took like a week or two of just breeding and a shiny before I settled with HP Ice with BP 64 or something.
Now, Hidden Power is set to 60 BP and is also more easily inherited because of the Destiny Knot. If you're going for a specific type, you just have to Destiny Knot breed until the one IV you want to drop down to a certain lower level do, and then it's all golden from there and maybe a little bit of chain breeding this new "deficiency" down.

EDIT: andddd this is four days old

Well my problem was that I was breeding a 5 IV snivy with a 6 IV ditto with destiny knot. But since destiny knot now carries FIVE IVs from the parent to the child, it isn't possible in my situation because the HP Type I'm looking for has a limit of odd numbered IV in it's code.

I believe these are for fire in case you keep trying someday.
Fire (HP/Attack/Defense/Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense/Speed):
31/30/31/30/31/30 <-- Most used I believe
30/30/31/30/31/30
31/31/30/30/31/30
30/31/30/30/31/30

Unfortunately, you will not get to maxed out Snivy's Special attack. But you can still hit quite hard.

Do you still have maybe a snivy with no perfect IV's?
