So, after finally getting all of the different types of bridge PWP, I decided I wanted to remodel one of them. I already renovated the northern bridge and the Lucky is definitely too close to the central bridge for me to touch. I decided that the southern bridge could use some sprucing up. The bridge was between Victoria's and Octavian's houses and there is a decent buffer between their houses and where the new bridge was to be placed. I know that there's a one space perimeter around a resident's house, which would have left a six space gap between their houses for the bridge, which I thought would be more than enough. Silly me.
I gave the order to demolish the bridge and woke up the next morning excited to place my new bridge. I walked Isabelle over to the site and to my horror, she said that there's a resident's house in the way. I tried walking Isabelle all over the place, hoping that she would find a spot that worked, but she never did. I even tried digging up bushes, but Isabelle just wouldn't work with me.
Victoria and Octavian are dream residents of mine and I had adopted the both of them just recently, I couldn't bear to adopt them out or void them just to get my bridge back. I tried walking Isabelle around to see where would be the nearest place I could drop a new bridge; because the lake is directly west of Octavian's house and Lucky is directly north of the lake, I would have to place the new bridge between the central and northern bridges. To make matters worse, the southern bridge was highly utilized, as it gave me direct access to the southern part of my town and the ramp to the beach and pier was just a few steps from it.
This was the first instance in gaming where I seriously felt like throwing and breaking something. I even thought about resetting my town on the spot, but I had put in so much work into the town and the tree in my plaza is so big that I couldn't bare to do it.
I thought about it for a bit and looked at my track record with playing the other Animal Crossing games. I'd usually play for about a year where I'd complete my bug and fish collection and then just stop playing, for some reason New Leaf is different for me. I've competed the bug, fishing and deep sea diving collections and I'm still interested in playing. I think it's because I feel like I have control in who lived in my town and how things turned out, rather than living under the rule of Tortimer and just dealing with whoever decided to just move in. I'm considering getting a second copy just to house Victoria and Octavian (and possibly even Lucky while I'm at it) while I replace the bridge and perform the 16-resident cycle. I think it got to me just because I've played this game so much since it came out, this is probably the break I needed.
