can anyone explain why old threads get closed just because someone posts in it after a period of inactivity? specifically in brewsters cafe. i genuinely don't see the point in this as long as no arguments have been sparked or if there aren't any other existing similar threads.

i was wondering the same thing. i don't see the problem with threads that are a few months old (like january or december). i do get it if the thread is 3 years old or smth

From what I see, bumping old threads does not generate any new opinions or anything new overall. Not to mention, people are still gonna make another thread related to an old one so why bother bumping the old one up and have multiple threads of the same thing?

I guess not all old threads are bad, but then there's those pointless threads (like some in The Basement) that just don't need a bump resurrection.

One of the threads in Brewster's was closed yesterday because someone posted there after one month of inactivity, but there's a thread in the ACNL forum from 2014 that someone recently bumped and it didn't get closed. I don't get it. One month isn't so bad, IMO, and it makes more sense to let people keep talking in there rather than create a new thread for the same discussion.

These were my thoughts exactly after that happened lmao.
That and "Well great now there's gonna be three 'What's your favourite band or singer' threads on the first page of Brewsters" and lo and behold.
I really don't see how a month is an "old thread".

Me neither, but I don't know exactly the rules for necro'ing threads either.. Then a lot of old threads can easily be buried up to the bright lights of the forums and it takes time for people to notice :p

sounds to me like somone really needs to set a time limit, because this means mods can go ahead and close threads as they please for no good reason. a month is just ridiculous, especially when the topic is still relevant

Yeah, I saw someone bump an old thread from 2014, and the mods didn't do anything o_O

Inconsistency yikes!

If bumping a thread after a month is against the rules, why didn't this get closed? Or this? Or this or this or this? What's the benefit of having 20 threads about the same thing just because one is a month old tbh

i'm guessing that not a lot of people report when someone bumps up an old thread though (especially the acnl boards), i know i don't, maybe it's just a case of the mods not seeing the ones mentioned above

I'm surprised the mods don't make rules together. One mod says a month makes a thread old, but another mod thinks it's okay to bump a year+ old thread. Things would run more smoothly if they weren't making individual decisions based on their personal opinions.

I mean if the limit is indeed a month (which doesn't seem like it based on Justin's reply) it's pretty stupid if it's still a relevant topic. Even moreso if it's a topic that has a thread made for it every 2 days.

i totally get that they close like 4 year old threads about cucumber or whatever but if a thread is only a few months old i really dont get why it should be locked if people want to discuss it again. (and not just bumping it with like a "lol" because that's not rly..,, yeah . )

The thread was locked not because of the length of time before the bump, but rather the context in which it was bumped. The user in question was bumping multiple old threads in what I suspected was a method to boost their post count rather than truly caring about contributing to the topics.
