Hey guys! I drive a Sonic. I find out if it is totaled or repairable tomorrow (I'm fine, just the car isn't too great lol). I anticipate I'll be buying a new car honestly. I am excited about that, but I really didn't want to have to have a car payment again. Anyway, does anyone have suggestions for cars around $22k or less that they would recommend? Preference of new or used? Any ideas appreciated!

If it’s budget you need and you have an enterprise nearby, they sometimes sell their cars for great prices and not a lot of miles (you really should pay attention to the miles though if you go this route). I bought a 2 year old car from them for just over 10k and it was in perfect condition. They just wanted rid of it because it was an older model. Still works great and now it’s 4 years old. I don’t have any specific vehicles to recommend though, sorry!

How many miles did it have when you bought it? I don't rack up a lot as it is. My 6 year old car had maybe 48k on it and it was a new car.

For that price? Here are some recommendations from me:

Honda Civic
Mazda3
Subaru Impreza

Also, this isn't the most reliable choice necessarily, but if you're open to used cars like Kaiaa mentioned, a used Volkswagen Golf GTI would be a fun car. :D

For a daily driver car....?
I guess a Toyota Corolla if you can find one within that price range and around 50-100K miles max

I love a good Honda. You can probably buy one new for around that price and they're very reliable and hold their value better than most cars today. I had a 2000 Honda Civic that I bought new and kept it for 16 years. It still ran great and I was able to trade it in for a good price. The only reason I let it go was because I was bored and wanted something new.

Tbh I am trying to decide between buying a few year old one with like 40 k miles or a new one. I am considering leasing. I love that they hold their value. My Sonic was..not so great at that. I am not really considering Chevy or GM again.

I would recommend the Honda Civic as well. My family and I have had it for a good couple, three years and it's great! :D

The link above has some useful information.I bought a late model used Ford Fiesta last year and it's been a great car so far but I'd recommend it only if you can drive a manual transmission(the automatic trans for small Fords is wonky). My sister has a Kia Soul and that's a good car for the money.Generally,I'd say if you go Asian get a Honda,Toyota or Hyundai/Kia,if you go American stick with Ford and Volkswagen if you prefer European cars.

Definitely another vote for Honda. I have a Civic (2011) and I adore it.
