Campsite question - inviting villagers

Hey! So I know the Amiibo cards work to invite characters who will push out other villagers when your island is full.

However, can you invite a new campsite villager who ISN'T an Amiibo card (random visitors) to live on the island when it's full?

I asked in a discord and they said without the cards and with a full island they were able to ask Marshall to move in. But someone else said it doesn't work that way.

Anyone have experience with this?

I did. It just happened to me two days ago. I had a full town, there was a random camper I wanted. I asked him to move in. He suggested to kick out someone but the first one he asked to swap with, I wanted to keep so I didn’t answer his question. I just quit the game and closed without saving. I repeated the process a few more times until he suggested someone I was willing to let go of. We sealed the deal and I saved the game after. That villager he’s replacing was already in boxes the very same day. She left yesterday. The camper moved in today.

From what I've heard, the amiibo villagers let you choose who to kick out but asking a regular camper makes them pick someone random.

Sometimes they ask to play a game, sometimes they just agree immediately.
