Can a goldfish save your life?

yeah i know the title is weird, but i've been asking people this literally all day.

backstory: i read a textpost where a woman spent 500$ for a surgery to save her goldfish after it swallowed a pebble and couldn't breathe. i told my friend, was standing beside me, and she said that it was really stupid. i felt a tad bit bad for the fish and said "what if the goldfish could do something useful?" because people would give surgeries to their cats and dogs, but not their goldfish. (yes i know the obvious reason why they wouldn't spend it on goldfish but i'm curious and goldfish deserve their say ok) anyways, i said maybe the goldfish could possibly accidentally call 911 if you're in trouble or something, and she just looked at me oddly and said are you okay.

the rest of the day i asked people "in what instance could a goldfish save your life?" and the answers i got (in this order):
1. (trigger warning) if (highlight the rest if you want to see it) you were contemplating suicide, you wouldn't do it because you know your goldfish cares and loves you. (he said this in a straight face, i feel like he knows)
2. if you were hungry you could eat it ?
3. i guess it could flop onto a phone and call 911 but that's pretty stupid
4. christine are you ok
5. i thought we went over this already, goldfish cannot call 911

7. hmm, if you were underwater i guess it could give you cpr???? *hard laughter*

that is all the answers i could get, and i know this is pretty stupid but think about this, like actually, what can a goldfish do to potentially save your life? i ain't looking for ****posts here people i'm looking for the cold hard answers, this could possibly save a poor goldfish life.

HOWEVER fish are actually useful pets to have for how calming they are to watch, and are especially useful for autistic people! Just watching them swim has proven to lower blood pressure, ease muscle tension, be a de-stresser, and help with relieving anxiety (which is also the reason there's always fish in orthodontist and dentist offices). They're also useful for people with Alzheimer's by giving them something that will hold their attention.

So in a sense, I guess a goldfish can save your life, or at least make living a little easier.

You could eat it, but it would be raw, and it probably wouldn't taste good, and end up making you sick, meaning you will get more hungry.

Goldfish can't really do anything because without water they die.

Well, we aren't stupid enough to go into space without a helmet, so why would a fish be stupid enough to go get a phone, and call 911? It would die like 2 seconds after it gets outta the bowl. We don't live in Bikini Bottom.

ok calling the 911 if you're dying isn't stupid, that's pretty genius ;A; and it wouldn't die 2 seconds after getting out of the bowl, they probably survive as long as we do if we get drowned, and three, some people drown.

Fish, are not as smart as humans. Its stupid for a fish to be like :" Oh, my owner is dying" then get out of the bowl to grab a phone. In that process, the fish would try to breathe. It would then die because its gasping for water to give it energy.

Well i mean it wouldn't really help you too much if you were forced to eat it. It would be protein, so you wouldn't get much energy, glucose or carbohydrates from the chicken nugget sized fish.

i said accidentally in my post, it has been known that fish do fly out of their bowl accidentally. the case i state is by pure chance.

Okay so tbh usually the reason people will pay a lot for surgeries for a dog/cat cause the dog/cat was pretty pricey $$ to begin with... Like spending 500$ on a 50 cent goldfish is literally paying 1000 times more than the fish cost initially

So like I don't think there's anything a goldfish could ever do for you I think that lady is just stupid
