Can bridges go over a river of 5 square width?

I have a 4 square width right now, and it looks like it can't go bigger ? I don't wanna remove the bridge and then wasting bells if the other one doesn't fit

Not to my knowledge, I tried yesterday and had to make my river smaller.

Four is likely the limit.

When playing “New Leaf,” I frequently used a bridge to hold items temorarily—or for established Dream Addresses—and found just four were of use. (I could put eight items on a bridge.)
