Can I get new horizons villager back

if I use and amiibo card to get a villager in new horizons on my island then the villager wants to leave and they move away can I re-use the amiibo cards to get them again? I have some popular villagers I could trade for bells and other items then the person could keep the villager and I can get them again aswell if I use amiibo, does that work?
