Can I invite a friend's amiibo villager to my island if they are still camping?

Hi ! Kinda weird question
if my friend invites an amiibo villager to their campsite, can I go over and invite them or do they have to do the DIYs and have them move to their island first, then kick them out for me?

You can only get villagers if they are packing up to leave their HOME in another person's town. So theyd have to move into your friends town and then be on their way to move out before you can claim them.
