Can you trade or give fish to friends?

hello,
I'm wondering if its possible to give fish to friends. I have tried a few things and none of them work, which leads me to believe that it can't be done. Or can't be done early in the game?
I never tried to trade fish in ACNL so I'm not sure

I have been wondering about this since we can put fish and bugs outside on the ground. I have also considered that if this were the case; perhaps they might not count as a fish/bugs that have been caught.

It was not possible to trade fish in ACNL because we could not put them outside and we could not pick items from someone else's house.

I’ve tried mailing it via the Airport and placing in my town for them to pick up, or me picking up something from their town, but I think it’s completely barred because they want you to catch your own creatures, which I don’t mind too much, I like the challenge.

My guess is that you can only pick up items that are not displayed. You can't throw fish on the floor in leaf form so I guess it's not possible
