Hello I just wanted to post here and get some advice from other users on here that have cats :)

I am going from the usual cat litter tray to a one like this.

And wanted to know the best way to help my cat using one like this.

What did you find worked for you in helping your cat?

I could not find a pic of the exact one I am getting but it has a small flap door to the entrance.

Thank you :)

It has been a long time since my cats were kittens (one is 18 and the other is 20), but I’ll try to tell you what I can. My cats have kidney disease and often get urinary infections so sometimes they go in and pee too close to the outside of the litter (which resulted in it getting on the floor). My mom noticed that it happens when the litter is pushed too close to the exit and it doesn’t happen supposedly as much when most is pushed towards the back. I don’t think you will need to worry about this though tbh, but I thought I’d share just in case.

My mom disinfects the litter once a month and I scoop it every day.

We also keep a mat or towels sometimes down by the litter box.

Sorry if that is not what you’re looking for. Oh we also have to keep a towel on the back of kitty litter since sometimes (i don’t remember how) the pee goes through and gets the wall.

No thank you for posting :) I want to know how others experience their kitties using litter boxes :)

That is one of the main reasons why I am changing to a closed box I find my cat having to much fun kicking the rocks out all over the floor
(my cat is like a dog and loves to dig up holes in dirt, rocks, grass etc) then she just pees on the floor. Cause after playing she positions her bottom half over the edge of the box and goes on the floor accidently.

She always kicks rocks all over the floor which I do not mind having to clean up but her litter box is in my spare bathroom which is the ones guests use. I always worry they will see the rocks everywhere and everything :(

I have also found whenever I walk into that bathroom to wash my hands or just get something she will meow at me a kind of get out meow or if she hasn't started yet she will just get up and run off.

And I feel like getting this type of litter box will give her a lot more privacy if I was to walk in I can't see her

If you don't like the dusty/gravel cat litter stuff, they sell cat litter made from recycled paper. It comes in the form of pellets and they'd probably be easier to clean up? I don't know what to suggest to be honest. That's the first thing that came to mind.

I just recently got two kittens last year and I didn't have any problem getting them trained. Yeah they kick litter all over the place, but it's in my unfinished basement, so it's not that big of a deal to me. I just sweep up the strays now and then. I feel like you can't avoid them not making some kind of a mess (even if slightly)

The box looks very similar to the one I got for my cat. It is the only one he has ever used since I got him as a rescue kitty 😊 Never had any problems. Just keep it clean and change litter regularly. I use wood chip as it was what he was used to when he came home.

I have a little mat outside the box which helps with some of the mess but tbh you just need to sweep a bit no matter what.

Now, the rule here is if you talk about your cat you have to post a pic 💜

Thank you to the above comments 😊

I don't have any photos on my computer only on my phone but her breed is a Norwegian forest cat she looks exactly like this.
She has a silver chest and silver hair sticking out between her toes other than that she is fully black :)

Gorgeous kitty 😍 definitely a beautiful fur baby 🥰

I always used a normal, flat cat toilet before, but since I have my newest cat, she has a weird thing aka she is peeing really high, lol.
So I decided to use a toilet like you want to use (thank god they exist, my walls are saved!) and I just placed it next to the other litter box.
Turns out all of my cats prefer the one with the roof and door, I guess more privacy? 😆

I would just place it next to the old litterbox and see how it goes. From my experience they just naturally prefer a more private space and will switch themselves. :)

I found my cats didn't need any 'help' transitioning to a different style of litter box. They understood what it was and used it as appropriate. Your cat will most likely do the same.

So far my cat is not liking the new covered litter box.
I ended up taking the lid off to show her what's inside and she has since used it so I might put the cover back on so she can see that its safe.

Her name is Ziba ❤ that was name she had when we rescued her :) It means fight, and strength which she had a lot of being a young black kitten :( cause black cats don't get adopted as much as other colours 😭as people think black cats will bring bad luck 😠

So we kept the name its suits her very well 😍

She went in a used it :) when she came out I cuddled her and told her what a good girl she was and gave her a small treat ☺

She was very proud of herself 😭

That's so awesome!! Congrats!
Our cat was too scared of the door so we had no choice but to remove it and just deal with the litter mess lol.

Haha I got one like this for my cats, but I ended up having to take the door/flap off, cos neither of them liked it. They mostly go outside anyway, but at night they're in a cattery thing (bf is allergic so can't have them indoors beyond the conservatory) so they need a litter box for then. They still have the roof on, but I've given up even trying with the door/flap as they won't use it.

I was about to suggest that! I had the cat toilet standing around in the livingroom at first, when I bought it, without litter or anything, because.. well.. I was a bit lazy to actually put it in the proper spot and make it usable. :D
The cats loved to sleep in it with the door being in place, but once I putted litter in it and in the proper spot I had to remove the door, as they didn't like it at all. Cats are weird.. 😂

My cat never had an issue with using the litterbox but in case this experience is helpful or good to note:
I used a no-lid style plastic bin that was bigger than her so she had a lot of room to adjust herself and find "her doo-doo zone", and used litter that had the cat attraction scent/pheromones in it. I also kept it against the wall and not in a corner so she had 3 different sides to exit out of. I also made sure she had a good inch or two of litter so she could dig deep if she needed.
