Changing Majors in College

That's completely fine. It's safer to go for what you're interested in, and I've seen a lot of people in my University transfer to a different course. Good luck.

Many people switch majors 2-3 times in their college/university career. One thing to consider, however, is that the course work you are doing for your major may not be the same as an actual job in the field. Make sure to research the possible jobs/careers more than what you learn in the courses so you can get a good idea of what you will be doing for a lot of your life!

Changing your majors is something that most people do, it's not bad or anything, in fact I would say it's good because you're growing and learning what your niche is. I recently changed my major from accounting and finance to accounting and mathematics, and I'm very happy with my decision. College is your time in life to try new things, take risks, learn about new stuff, and find what you like to do. If you have family or friends pressuring you into a certain major because of economic reasons, try to at least double major or minor if you're still not comfy with switching your majors so you can at least study what you do enjoy.

And remember, senioritus is not a bad thing!!! Even if you have to take out a few loans, if it means you have a career that makes you happy it will be worth it in the long run.

Well after the first week of classes, I do not enjoy the major I'm going into. I'm going for an IT major but I just haven't found a love for it. I'm good at the course material but I do not enjoy it. I'm planning on switching into nursing. I'm just hoping my mom understands and that my wallet stays somewhat full.

Has anyone here switched majors? What was it like and do you regret or enjoy the decision?

It's very strange - I began in nursing and switched to IT and I'm thinking of switching back! I hadn't enjoyed the course material either. I regret my decision to switch majors because I no longer enjoy IT because of Networking. I sometimes wonder what it would be like if I would've stayed in the nursing program, where I would be right now if I hadn't given it up in my first semester. I notice this post was made about a month ago but I really hope that you found a solution/came to a decision that made you happy. <3

I'm in my first year and don't have any plans to switch, but you shouldn't feel scared or ashamed to if you need to! Especially since it's your first year, now's a better time than ever to switch. So many people do and at the end of the day, all that matters is that you're in a program that your heart's in too! The worst thing would be to stick with a major you're not enjoying and then realizing that you should've switched once your degree's finished.

Switch now before you have kids, are living alone, etc. I switched from web design to graphic design and while they're similar, they're different. I have a job in graphics and am loving it. 100% worth the switch. Do you want to be unhappy for the rest of your working life? It's a long time, remember.

That's my advice.

I personally haven’t changed any of my majors because of money issues ! So if you feel like you genuinely want to change your major and try something new there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s always a good idea Do you something interested in for the rest of your life rather than stuck with something you hate
