Charging you Switch during play?

I just wanted to follow up in case anyone else has this issue.
I experimented a bit yesterday and now believe I was just letting the battery run too low before trying to charge and play at the same time. I was letting it go below 20% and when I continued to play it was draining power faster than it was charging the battery.
When I let it charge to 100% and left it plugged in while I played yesterday, it managed to charge faster than I was draining power.
I think the problem is solved.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I know that you mentioned that the problem is solved. But that shouldn't be happening at all.
Has this been happening to your switch from the beginning or is it more of a new issue?

To me it kind of sounds like either your charger is damaged or your Switch's battery is damaged. I had a similar issue with my Switch and eventually it got to the point where I couldn't unplug it at all because the battery would go from 100% to 0% in seconds. Hopefully it's just the charger. Though replacing the battery is cheap and relatively easy if it ends up being that.

It has happened since I got it. I figured it was normal, but I knew I could play by DS plugged in and thought it was a bit strange that they'd make the Switch differently. I tried another cable and it was even worse so I'm thinking it may be the battery now.
Thanks for your input

I have the Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee Switch, and I swear it eats battery at a disturbing rate. Not sure if all the Lets Go Switches are like that, or if you even have that one. But when my boyfriend and I both play at the same time (he just has a regular one) my battery drains at least 10% faster.
I can counteract the drain if I plug it in soon enough (like over 40%) but less than that, the battery just drains.
I should probably look into replacing the battery haha. I'm just scared to mess up the Switch, since my boyfriend got it as a gift for me and he paid waaaay to much for it (he bought it well after they were released).

Did you buy it new or used? The one that I had problems with was used. If you got it new you might be able to have Nintendo replace the battery for free. But it's kind of an annoying process. But if it's the battery then I think it should be fine to play just as long as you keep it plugged in, I think?

I almost always play mine while it's charging and it works fine, but then... I've never let the charge get really low before, so maybe that's what's different.
