I've also learned my problems with drawing are:
a) I have hand issues, arthritis runs in my family (but no one but me has had hand issues this early on) ;o; I'm trying to be really careful not to give myself carpal tunnel. I hesitate to draw bc of this, I will be seeing a specialist later on to try to sort it out. I try not to draw for too long except I take a while to get into the groove of drawing. I get carried away sometimes. I'm trying to learn learn better hand placement strategies and how to be ambidextrous but it's... a process ajhkj. I'm not going to let it stop me from drawing, though!
b) perfectionism is my #1 enemy. I feel like art can feel so personal in comparison to writing fics or doing graphic work because you put your heart and soul into art. It's true the same applies to other art mediums but I tend to care more about my art and get discouraged easily. Perfectionism amplifies this issue bc I convince myself why bother if I can't do the concept I'm thinking of, but I'm slowly getting over that. In a way, it feels like an insult whenever something you work on gets little to no feedback. I'm trying not to take it too seriously and properly let myself go wild with drawing. It's taken me a long time to realize there will always be imperfections.
This quote has helped me a lot:
'All Islamic artists make a deliberate error in their work on the grounds that Only God Is Perfect.'
And that literally changed the game for me. It's no longer necessary that my lines must be perfect and that things will come along on its own. You learn through your mistakes, so it's unrealistic to expect perfection from yourself and stress yourself out from it. You have to remember all art was created from nothing and that matters; it is your among the depths of your imagination that allows art to be born.
I'm trying to be a little more kinder to myself when it comes to drawing so hopefully you guys will see that reflected in my art! ;v; With my last drawing, I skipped a lot of 'steps' and just drew. I was really shocked at how fast I did it.
