Clickbait/Misleading ACNH video Thumbnails Rant

that's youtube for you, they want you to click and watch their video... i honestly don't mind it but sometimes it is a waste of time when you expect the thumbnails of the video have to do something with the content itself...

Yeah I think clickbait thumbnails are now an integral part of YouTube and not exclusive to the AC community on there. It's really annoying, but that's just how online culture is now- if people want your watch time they will make the title/thumbnail as attention grabbing as possible.
Yes, although I think there's a difference between make an interesting, overall visually appealing thumbnail and lying about video content. I know that getting more views is a priority, but it shouldn't come at the cost of tricking the viewer into watching their content.. I think It gets worse over time for their channel because people already know their shady tactics so they stop watching so at least there's that.

Omg! I was just thinking about this the other day, and complaining to my friend about! I mean 1 or 2 videos okay.. i guess some people like speculation. But this is just ridiculous, my feed was full of these fake update videos. No wander people got high expectations

I send my friend these screenshots, this has been my feed the last week (these all have been uploaded within the last 7 days)

Thanks for posting these! I feel like these are really good examples of what I mean. Remember: Nothing has been confirmed by nintendo, thumbnails like these set up false expectations. Heck, we don't even know if the update will be 1.10 or 2.0! Thumbnails like these set false expectations and leave ACNH community members feeling sad when they don't happen. If someone is making a "theory"/"predictions" video they should label the video title accordingly. The thumbnail text should also clearly say speculation/prediction and it should not include characters/features not in game.

Yep just as I suspected. These videos really explain why people were so angry that they were expecting a 2,0 update when it didn't happen. I really don't understand why they had to make them. Its not like it was confirmed by Nintendo. This is why I really don't like speculations and predications because it just makes some people expect way too much and when it doesn't come true then it creates this huge hate mob against the game.

Not just for Animal Crossing, but any other game in General. I seen this happen before with some of my favorite games like GTA 5, Super Mario, and Pokemon. So I pretty much know that there are YouTubers out there who like to do predications to give people the hopes up that something is coming when in reality its not confirmed nor is it true.

Yup I totally agree. I think its really crappy of content creators to straight up lie in their thumbnails and titles to get views/money instead of posting quality videos that would actually help and inform viewers in a positive way.

yeah it's always about brewster lol
Yeah its everytime when there is speculation Brewster is the first thing people bring up. Not gonna lie I took a step back and I thought of the people asking for Brewster. Everytime I see people always hoping for this and they don't get it, it causes a lot of backlash. I am thinking to myself "Well if Brewster does come will that be enough for people?" Its just something that came to my mind. Even there were some people that were expecting much from this one anniversary update that they wanted more but all they got was a cake and that was enough to make them explode. While I understand the frustrations of people being mad I think the bigger issue is that Nintendo is planning on releasing these updates its just that we don't know when and we should really slow down on expecting so much.

Now let me be clear on this. I think people have been expecting things far too quickly. People have been going on about Brewster for so long and I can see how frustrating it can be when everything single time it’s not meeting there expectations. I think that’s something I learned recently is to basically don’t expect much. Now granted there are a few times I’ve been quite pleased what the new releases like the Mario day update since I'm a Mario fan for example. With that said It just requires a little patience, Nintendo seem to be spreading things out I guess this is something we have to get used to according data mines Brewster is coming but when? Is a good question.

Ngl it's a pretty dope cake.
While I think having Brewster in game would be pretty cool, nothing is set in stone, even datamined code might not make it in the game. You can only know when it's released. (Although I doubt nintendo would not add him in, it's still not a 100% chance, more like 99%.)

That’s been all of youtube for years. I think i’m more picky about my youtube homepage’s algorithm than i am about a lot of things. Once you click on one that is when the flood gates are opened then that is all your feed will be.

Of course tweaking your algorithm doesn’t solve the problem of the clickbait, but it will never go away. People want clicks and views not decent content.

That's the problem with places like Twitter, Youtube, ect. They don't have to be accurate. They just need to be 'entertaining', it's all about the views, likes, retweets ect. That's the whole reason people will steal art work and state 'I made this.' Because they don't need to do the actual work and instant gratification is right away because people will pat their butts for doing such great work.

That's why I kinda avoid Youtube these days, unless I'm looking for something very specific or someone has actually given me a video link for whatever reason. I got so fed up of all the misleading clickbait users, and they're all Youtube ever recommend to me.

What makes it worse is that there are quality videos on Youtube - but Youtube themselves never bother to show me them unless I scroll past a hundred of these videos first...

Honestly, the best ACNH content most of the time comes from smaller creators who are just doing it for fun, unlike bigger creators who play to pay their bills. (MOST of the time, NOT all the time. There are still a few larger creators who make content that's not clickbaity.) I mean, think about it, smaller ACNH youtubers don't relay on yt for their wages. Maybe a little bit of a side hustle, but that's about it. In the end youtube doesn't affect their lives it's just a hobby for them so they don't have much incentive to clickbait. Note: not all bigger creators click bait and some smaller creators might clickbait, but at the end of the day, bigger creators have more incentive to click bait because their quality of life depends on views. Youtube really tends to push bigger creators so it's hard to find smaller creators. Also, remember smaller creators don't do it as a job. They have their own jobs/school so it makes it hard to dedicate time to yt. Additionally, they aren't getting paid or are getting paid very little to make videos so they don't have too much incentive to upload. So yeah, most of the time smaller creators make good content but uploads may be a lil sparse. In addition, it can be hard to seek out these channels and they might not have the greatest film quality. (Why invest so much into a hobby you're not really sure about?) But it is worth it to seek them out and watch them. They actually make content with substance.

I usually just watch YouTube for Gaming News, Funny Moments, and any Podcast that talks about certain topics, but other than that I tend to avoid creators that always do clickbait titles. Of course sometimes that still occurs in my feed with some of the creators I subscribed too so it is a really a common issue.

I always watch ACNH update news straight from the source. But I always find out about updates by videos popping into my feed of other creators reacting to or talking about the update. I boggles my mind how they are literally repeating the same stuff said by nintendo but still feel that there is enough substance in the video to post it.
