I thought it'd be nice to have a hangout thread for comic book readers!
I am also always looking for good recommendations!

I have been a huge fan of the X-men universe since I was a little girl,
so I am still on board with the X-men story arcs. Both the Marvel Now! and back issues that I am collecting.
I also used to read AvX but it got boring and repetitive and over dramatic so I dropped just around the time:
Cyke killed prof X.

Apart from the X-men I am a fan of anything by Moebius (Jean Giraud) which is also my favorite comic book artist.
Mainly a fan of The Incal and Arzach/Arzak!
My 2nd fave comic book artist is Chris Bachalo omg he is extraordinary.

I own other misc graphic novels and a few random issues of some DC and other Marvel stuff that I got for free at events and at shops... But I have a lot of trouble getting out of my X-men comfort zone.

So, talk about the comics you read, and suggest good current or story arcs!

Also, share some artwork!

Chris Bachalo.

I'm not into superhero comics. As a child, I would read Archie, Far Side and Garfield. I've read The Walking Dead, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Squee. I haven't really found any other comics that spark my interest.

To each their own! :D
I read Garfield too as a kid, that and Calvin & Hobbes (that I still read sometimes) were favorite comic strips of mine. :)

I love comics but I am definitely behind on reading them.

I don't care much for superhero comics even though I love the characters. Prefer the cartoons I guess. XD

As for comics I love.. Chew is one of my favorites. Along with Y The Last Man. Both have fantastic stories.
I love the Lenore comics by Roman Dirge as well and read quite a few of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.
Bear by Jamie Smart is great too.

I love the Fables series as well.. It's fairytale character living immortal in the real world.. Waaaay before that Once Upon Time show :/

Sandman by Neil Gaiman is excellent too. Similar is The Dreaming.
Both are quirky and odd.. Perfect to me.

I'm sure there are others I am missing.. ^_^

I haven't read comics
But I love superhero television shows and films
and that annoys me because that's my pet hate
like people who watch films but don't read the books
like it doen't matter but idk it annoys me and im such a hypocrite
id love to read some but i dont have the time and there's so many

Sandman by Neil Gaiman is excellent too.

NOOOO I came here just to say that and you beat me to it. Now it sounds less cool, and like I'm just copying what other people say. No seriously though, Sandman got me into comics.

My favorite are arguable Batman comics. I absolutely adore the Batman universe, and am terrified of the villains, and moved by the heroes. It inspires me, some day I SHALL BE A SUPER HERO. Albeit, an aging one.

i used to read superhero comics a lot (mostly dc, but i like a few marvel comics) but i stopped mostly reading them when dc retconned everything. now i read morning glories and i need to finish the new young avengers run. i want to read the new ms marvel and catch up on some of the ones i fell off the wagon for (ultimate spider-man mostly). my best friend also got me into deadpool ages ago but i still haven't finished the comics because liefeld's art bothers me so much.

batman comics used to be my absolute favorites.

The only comics I've ever gotten into were Batman. I like to read issues mostly centered around my favorite villains of his Rogue Gallery, so basically Riddler, The Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Two Face, etc. I especially like Scarecrow: Year One as a Jonathan Crane origin story.

Meee!
I like graphic novels by hope Larson, and I like a comic called The Phoenix.

I really liked Bubble Gun and East of West. Aspen Comics are probably some of my favorites as a consistent whole. I haven't read too many of the more mainstream superhero comics, though I loved the Night of the Living Deadpool run. It was quite hilarious, as is expected of Deadpool. The My Little Pony comics are fun to read too. Oh, and Loki: Agent of Asgard was pretty decent, but I'm very biased when it comes to Loki anything. :p

Also, my local comic shop is doing a thing where the first 150 get a package of every single comic available that day. They're pretty awesome.

It's comic book day on Saturday! Our local bookstore is hosting an event where anyone can get one free comic book <3 first come, first served. Time to camp.

Lez go there sir free book woo!

We don't have free comic book day here sadly, although probably a few shops celebrate it anyway.
I'll have to go snoop around!

I normally look forward to Free Comic Book Day, but the comics this year look a bit boring :/
I'm currently I'm reading Loki: Agent of Asgard and Winter Soldier, after enjoying the recent Young Avengers series and Captain America 2 respectively. Though I'm not enjoying WS as much sine I ship Clintasha, whereas WS has Natasha and Bucky as a canon couple :/

I've kind of stopped buying physical copies of comics as my local store has gone OTT with the prices, charging roughly ?10-15 for a single issue (Coupled with them not stocking YA Vol 2 at all) whereas single issues through ComiXology (My comic app of choice, shame it isn't available on Windows Phones) are about ?1.99. Plus I got a $5 gift card from them randomly- it had to be spent on their US store hence the whole $ thing...

Any recommendations for any new Marvel Comic series I should try? (Don't suggest DC, I really, really don't like DC Comics...)

I am a fan of anything by Moebius

I read some of Moebius' stuff as a kid..at the time I didn't understand much of it but many of the images were strong enough to stay with me till today, like that story with Arzach vs a giant ape-creature above a sea of tentacles. Great artist.

I don't think Free Comic Book Day exists either where I live. :c It sounds fun and I wish we had it.

but

I would recommend these comix to anyone (in no particular order and sorry for the huge post. I like comics. xD):
- Bone by Jeff Smith
- Mouse Guard by David Petersen
- Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai
- Abelard by Renaud Dillies & Regis Haut

And for mature readers:
- The Rabbi's Cat by Joann Sfar
- Asterios Polyp by David Mazzucchelli
- The Quitter/American Splendor by Harvey Pekar
- Gear by Doug Tennapel
- Strangers in Paradise by Terry Moore
- Fun House by Alison Bechdel
- Logicomix by Apostolos Doxiadis
- Kings in Disguise by Jim Vance & Dan Burr
- Stitches by David Small
- Maus by Art Spiegelman
- Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
- Ghost World/Mr Wonderful by Daniel Clowes
- Watchmen/V for Vendetta/ The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore
- Krazy Kat by George Herriman
- Anything by Lynda Barry
- Anything by Osamu Tezuka (Black Jack is one of my favourites)
- Anything by Will Eisner

It's late here and I'm a little too tired to go into details, but I'll post some art to tempt prospective readers (although a single page/cover art really can't do justice to reading the whole book/series). All are fantastic comics imo. :)

I've heard so much about Maus! And I see it in shops often.
I really need to get my hands on it someday.

As for Moebius, yes his work really prints itself in the mind hahaha.
I was introduced to his work as a child via the comic series "Blueberry".
Like you I didn't understand the storyline but I was fascinated by the artwork,
the horses and landscapes in particular.
It crept to the back of my mind and I forgot about it for a while until I found The Incal in a library,
that triggered how much of a fan I am now hahaha. :)

Gah I used to be so completely obsessed with the Archie and spectacular spider man comics I have them everywhere and never touch them ;-;

I have a few rising stars, sandman and maus comics that I couldn't be bothered to continue as well

Maus isn't an easy read but I found it completely engrossing at the same time, and my local library has it. :) It was another comic which I didn't fully understand as a child but left a deep impression on me.

And I remember Blueberry! ;-; I'd forgotten the name but did a search and now I recognize it. Really should start reading his comics again once I have time after graduation.

Also, can't believe I forgot to mention Doug Tennapel's work >< He's the guy who created Earthworm Jim and I really dig his loose, fluid style. Mouse Guard by David Petersen is another great series.

I used to read superhero stuff like Batman but kind of grew out of it. xD There were some really good stories in the Batverse though.

My older brother used to buy a lot of Marvel comics back in the day, not so much anymore.

Off the top of my head I remember reading the Avengers comics (Secret, New, Academy, etc.), the Thanos Imperative arc for Guardians of the Galaxy (disappointed Cosmo isn't gonna be in the movie but I guess throwing a talking dog into the mix would've been a bit much)

Then there was Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, X-Men... Looking back on it he bought a ton of comics, cripes.

I like DC too, but I've always been more of a Marvel guy.
