Anyone been to one lately? I haven't been to one for years, due to being broke, and entrance fees being like 20 bucks.

I do recall getting some neat foreign stuff in the vendor area. Then of course there was the odd scent combination of fabreeze, axe body spray, BO, and maybe Taco Bell.

The first one I was able to go to was an anime themed one, it was the year before they banned these paddles I probably shouldn't bring up here.

The last convention I went to was last year with my best friends, which was Anime Central!!! I'm not going this year to a convention though and instead using the money to go see my best friends in their hometown ^^

Entrance fee being 20 bucks....What convention did you go to omg...

I went to conventions way after those paddles but I've heard stories and seen pictures of the dreaded things. I'm glad they're gone and were banned before my convention going time. This'll be the first year not going to a convention after 5 years. The first year I went, it was weird because I got stopped in cosplay for photos and what not but then.... someone came up, was asking me about my cosplay, then SUDDENLY kissed my cheek, and ran off. I wish I was kidding because it was such a weird occurrence.

I think what makes conventions the most fun is the people you go with. Other than my first year being, ya know, the first time? I feel like last year was the most fun I ever had because of the people I went with. The person most years I went with was someone from the first year (we went in a big group but after that, it was just me and her going) and it was more like she was the ride to and from. She otherwise left me to my own devices and I just didn't have as much fun walking around alone.

Not really into conventions for various reasons, the only reason I'm commenting is because yeah, 20 bucks? That must be the smallest convention ever or something. The conventions here aren't even big and they're still like $75.

I haven't been to one but yeah the entrance fee is like $60 here and then you have to pay for pictures with the special guests and stuff which is another $20

It was back when a physical Shonen Jump magazine still existed in the states and Naruto was more popular. I think it was 20 bucks for a day pass.

I almost went to an anime convention about a year ago when I still lived in Mississippi, but I had to pack to leave for a trip to Texas...

I went to an anime concevntion called Hyper Japan, about two years ago, same reasons as you though why I haven't gone to one since: money.
The entrance was expensive, more than 20.
It was a nice convention though! I cosplayed as Junko (the best i could with normal clothing I found lying around while making the headband with monokuma on, and eventually finding and buying monokuma there to complete the look).
I went with my friend, who had burrowed my umbreon jacket I had brought there a year before. Wish I could go again and have enough money for a proper cosplay outfit. Next time I wanna go as Eruka the frog witch from soul eater!

Do you still get a bag of free stuff? I remember getting a couple nice sample manga. One for Shonen Jump, one Shojo Beat.

I have never been to a convention, I always want to go, but I know in reality I would die... I have severe social anxiety and break down in crowds so yeah... plus I don't do good in heat, and it's usually baking hot at cons with all the bodies movies around and the fact that all the popular ones are during the summer and everything. PLUS I'm broke, and have no transportation so I mean, it's really just preventing me from making a regrettable decision of going and then having a very public episode in the middle of a crowd...

No I don't think we got anything free, I tried samples of Japanese food, had a nice sample of a sushi burger and it tasted really good.
There was also little things we could do like paint our own kokeshi doll which we got to keep. I painted a blossom tree on the body of the doll~

I've been to a few, both more game/comic oriented ones as well as some Japanese con here a few years ago. I mean they are alright and you can get SP hits but honestly the game/comic one is pretty much only advertising and trying AAA mainstream games that queues for hours so yeah I mostly went for SP hits ngl.

For all the years I went to ACen, the only things I got free were a few bags with anime characters on them that fell apart pretty quick, lanyards for your badge/ticket, posters for upcoming anime that were going to be released soon, and... tissues LOL

Every year there is a group that comes to promote JPOP/JROCK and they pass out like... the little packets of tissues you use to blow your nose.

i went to a convention when i was like 11 in a freddy fazbear costume (one of my regrets) and a lot of people asked me for pics! it's ok and really fun but i wouldnt recommend it for people with social anxiety

Never been to one and probably never will. Not only is the whole process seemingly expensive (travel, hotel, admission fee, food, any products you might want to buy), but I tend to always hear about people getting the con bug/funk/flu/whatever word you want to use for getting sick. They sound fun on a surface level because there's a lot to see and do and it's a good way to meet online friends and/or hang out with friends you usually aren't able to because you live far apart and whatnot, but it all seems like far too much hassle for me, at least at the current time.

I've never been, but I had a friend in the States years ago, who went to all of those things.

He met some awesome people, had his picture taken with Pinhead from Hellraiser (Doug Bradley) and heaps of other people.

He had the most massive collection of every bit of movie memorabilia you could think of.

He used to send me the odd item or two. ^_^
