What?s your opinion on the copyright issue? This includes how companies handle it.
In my opinion, I agree with the copyright laws. If you make something, you own it. If a distributor distributes it, they own it. The owner of the IPs also gets to decide what else they want to do with it, even if they don?t want you making fanart or fan games, using their content for public use, or publishing your works that contain theirs. Of course, making copies of their work and distributing it for free or for profit is the same as stealing.
I can understand your argument, but I bet most people who were downloading ROM versions if games weren't doing it so that they wouldn't have to buy the actual game. For instance, I've downloaded a lot of N64 and Gamecube ROMs because I wanted to be able to experience them and try them out before I decided if I wanted to spend a bunch of money on it.
It was also a great way for people to be able to play foreign games that they wouldn't normally be able to get ahold of, especially the ones that the nice people of the gaming community translated to English.
And I personally don't think that any of Nintendo's efforts to shut down ROM websites and remove their content will completely get rid of those distributions, no matter how much they or others spend on the issue.
I think they are both good and evil to be honest. Good because it's keeping people's stuff that they own safe and to avoid people stealing it from them/making money but this isn't always the case, which is why it's evil. For example, now In Instagram live videos if you play music by artists, you get disabled from going live due to copyright (this happened to my friend yesterday) I don't see how there would be any intention of somehow stealing it/profiting from it in a live video, it was for enjoyment whilst they were drawing. In my opinion, there should be boundaries for copyright and try and not be so harsh from time to time >w<
*I have a feeling someone is about to contradict me lmao*
I'm fine with copyrights but only to an extent. The pros to this is that it prevents people from making profit out of it and claiming a company's work as their own. With nintendo's history of copyright strikes, I find it to be a bit disappointing. They have been striking other people down for producing fanart or other forms of media through passion. Those people (at least most of them) have no intent of making profit off of nintendo, especially when they're just trying to have fun and show their love.
