This is my third entry to the Creativity Blog. This also opens up a new chapter of my blog.

Hotel Escape is a game where you are stuck in a hotel, and you're trying to find your way out. You are a room service person who is done for the day, but the hotel doors are locked while everyone at the information desk is at a big dinner. This game was inspired by 100 Floors, Doors & Rooms, any of those gem escape games from Teralumina Games, and some other related games.

You begin in the lobby of a six story hotel. To go out the doors, you'll need to collect five stars and type in the password. There are 100 rooms per floor, but only 12 rooms in this hotel are still empty. These 12 rooms are your levels. Each time when you enter a hotel room for the first time (assuming that you never reset your progress), you will be trapped there. Use several clues to find your way out. At the same time, there will be some hidden stars. There is a red one, a yellow one, a green one, a blue one, and a purple one. From floors 2 to 6, there is one star per room, and only one room in each floor contains a star. The empty odd-numbered rooms don't contain the stars, but they do contain the requirements for obtaining the stars. The even-numbered rooms has the stars, but has the key cards to unlock the odd-numbered rooms.

Places for close-ups in each room:

  • Desk - the drawer may have something inside. And don't forget to check what's on top.
  • Beds - under rare occasions, there are something under the pillows.
  • Nightstand - has drawers that might contain something inside. Also has books that give you hints.
  • Paintings - they tell a story too.
  • Table - there could be something on top as well. Maybe some useful items or books.
  • TV - if only you have the remote. Watching TV has some clues.
  • Dresser - stores more items than ever.
  • Closet - in one of the rooms, there is a control room that activates the elevator. Strange, right?

There are many hints and collectables per room. Every room has an inventory, as well as the main area (halls and lobby). Some items in your inventory in certain rooms would be items that you got from other rooms. At the same time, some items in each inventory from the rooms you browse (like the the stars) will never be used by the time you leave the rooms. Each inventory contains 18 items.

Items from the halls and lobby:

  • Even-numbered room card - you can access any even-numbered rooms. Found at the front desk.
  • Odd-numbered room cards - there are six of them in the game. They can be found in the even-numbered rooms of the same floor.
  • Helper items - items obtained from the odd-numbered rooms that are required to get the stars from the even-numbered rooms. In the first floor, there is an ignition key that is required to activate the elevator.
  • Stars - items obtained from the even-numbered rooms. They are required to open the front doors of the hotel building.

Other items can be obtained in each room, and are exclusively used for the rooms they come from.

To complete the game, here are some of the major details:

  1. Floor 1 - to unlock the elevator, an ignition key is required. It can be found in the odd-numbered room of the floor, but the key card to the odd-numbered room and the closet with the engine are both in the even-numbered room. In addition, both rooms will have paintings that can help you determine what order the color stars should be placed near the front door and what numbers are associated with each star.
  2. Floor 2 - the blue star is hidden in the desk drawer of the even-numbered room. A jigsaw puzzle was accidentally left on the table, but has a missing piece. The piece is hidden in the odd-numbered room. The code to unlock the drawer is a subliminal message in the jigsaw puzzle.
  3. Floor 3 - if you can find the light bulb in the odd-numbered room, you can fix the lamp in the even-numbered room. Concealment won't work if light is casted upon, so the green star can be obtained from exposure.
  4. Floor 4 - the purple star is actually in a book from the odd-numbered room. However, it must be read in the even-numbered room.
  5. Floor 5 - the red star is part of one of the paintings in the even-numbered room, but the painting is dusty. A dust-off spray can is in the odd-numbered room.
  6. Floor 6 - to get the yellow star out of the top nightstand drawer in the even-numbered room, you need to put in the code. It can only be seen on TV, and the remote in the same room requires batteries. They can be found in the odd-numbered room.

So what do you think? Should there be a game like this? It sounds like a good idea to me.
