So, I have a stutter, I have had it for a loooong time now and it's got worse over the years. It's very embarrassing when I stutter, any advice on how to deal with it and do you have a stutter?
Thanks :)

What kind of stutter is it? I have a very mild stutter, and I tend to repeat a word a couple times. Of course it's not bad so I don't really know what it's like for those of you who really struggle with one.

I used to have a friend who would stutter a lot, like at least once in a sentence. She said reading out loud helped her a lot. Also, she was really shy so that probably contributed. Now she's older and she doesn't stutter at all.

I never stutter, but like an above post mentioned I hear reading aloud can help.

I stutter with certain words/letters and it is SO annoying ;w;

Repeat, remember, remote. Anything with "re" I stutter with. It drives me nuts.

Edit: oh and Web and design as well. I think any word that has an "e" coming after it kills me.

I try to slow down when I speak to avoid stuttering but it doesn't always help. In my mind, I find myself thinking fast on my feet, choosing certain words to go in place of the ones I will stutter on. So at least it's helping that skill? xP

I used to stutter a lot but I fixed that habit when I started doing high school debate. I did a few reading excersizes and i think that the most helpful one would be to read aloud and focus on reading the word instead of trying to make sentences in you brain. Over annunciation and reading backwards also works to help you focus on reading individual words.

I've recently develops speech problems (about 2 years ago) quite late in life, given that I'll be 30 in a few short years.
Mine was caused by a condition I have affecting my nerves and clotting in the vessels to my brain, which in turn has left damage.
It is embarrassing, to try and talk to somebody and it comes out as a stutter or its slurred because my face has gone numb. But I have grown in confidence since I was initially diagnosed, I'm not in such a state as I was about these effects of the condition. I'm seeing a speech therapist (again very late in life) and she is actually really helping to get the stutter under control. Have you been referred to somebody like that? Or could you be?
Like I say, confidence was a massive thing for me and usually when you have a speech impediment it's your confidence that suffers. Working on that would also really help you

I never had any issues with stuttering. Just be glad you don't have it as bad as this man.

Yeah, I mean I still have is pretty bad but not as bad as that haha
I don't repeat letters that much, I just really can't get out certain words like I will sit there in silence trying to get out the word.

when i am stuttering it's usually bc of anxiety and thne i just shut down and stop talking

but thats probably not a good idea tbh
maybe try talking slower and not being stressed out? mot tht u can choosd to not b stressed out but i mean, try to relax ?? idk

I've never r-r-r-really had a stu-t-t-ter (sorry, lol) but I've witnessed it and it looks like a pain in... life.

Some people grow out of it, though no doubt stress and such will just make it worse.

I had a very small stutter and it helped me to stop for a few seconds before I start talking.
