There's been a few helpful threads on decorating the areas around the train station and Re-Tail, but I haven't seen many on decorating around the river and ponds. I wanted to lay down a path near it but I'm having trouble because of the way patterns look if you set them close to the river. There's a spot near my river that has a villager's town and then mine, and the river has a curve on that spot so I can't put down a path there. I've thought of using textures that could make it look like a small pier but it'd probably still look weird.

In short, how do you decorate areas that are near water? Do you just leave the muddy patches as they are, use flowers, or what?

When I get the picnic blanket I use that and a few flowers. Or I make a picnic blanket from patterns and a few flowers. Other than that I find that, for me, violets are very pretty around the ponds.

It depends on the area for me. Some of my paths run right against the edge near the water and sometimes there's a gap. Depending on how wide I usually will plant bushes or flowers. For bushes there needs to be a space between the edge and where you plant it though. It's up to you though.

I have a path that makes a loop around my only pond. It's just decorated with flowers (there's a tree where it will fit), because I'm making the pond a "water feature."

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm looking for something that won't block me from accessing the water's edge since I need to get through when moving back and forth or when fishing. To clarify, I'm not talking about water areas in general but the way patterns look when you lay them down right next to water, they sort of stick out over the edge.

Yeah I always cringe in really cool towns covered in patterns when I reach the edges and it's all wonky. I just stay away from water edges when it comes to pattern. I really don't know how it's possible to make it look ok rofl.

Flowers and trees. I like to put trees a few spaces south of the water because it blooms really nicely and covers up the muddy edge from the bottom.

I use flowers. Never fails, looks great. Designs look really ugly when they're close to the water and that little gap where there's a curve too...ugh.

Yeah, flowers... I do this.

This is what I have done. It just depends on how my paths fit in the space

It doesn't bother me much when they're right on the edge. Or when the edge curves. I just put flowers in those spots.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I guess I'll end up using flowers, even though I kind of hate them in spots I have to move in since I like running in the game. :p

I use wooden boardwalk-looking paths where the path juts out over water - since that is what a boardwalk would naturally be used for.

I use the second QR code on this page at the edge of the water http://sinreiinfinity.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-62.html

How well does that work out for you? When I try to place patterns on the water's edge, it just doesn't look like a boardwalk, depending on the angle it looks paper-thin but visible. I'll try to take a picture of how it looks.
