I enjoy what they say but tbh AC regardless always felt pretty repetitive albeit the different personalities coming into play and as someone said I LOVE the items/customizing overall I always saw dreamies as a bonus w/ cute convos/gifts xD overall just my opinion : ) Definitely want to see mean convos back but eh im good for now.

Just found a lost item, and the resulting Nook Miles achievement tells me there should be requests, at least. So there's that.

Edit: just got a tip-off about a sick villager?

Has anyone who time travels know if villagers start asking you to complete tasks like getting them fruit or a fish or delivering a package?

I’m hoping that they will as more villagers arrive but idk. Kinda weird that they aren’t already.

All I know is the lost item feature returns.

I’ve only time traveled about ten days, but so far I haven’t had any villagers ask for favors or anything of the sort. :( The only times they have pinged me is to give me items/teach me emotions. Maybe they start once you complete everything, but so far it isn’t looking that way which is super disappointing to me.

I’m going to be upset if they removed one of the most important things about villagers.

Sort of Spoilers!

I've gotten two weeks time traveling in and just unlocked the water permit (still need the cliff one) but it's been slowly developing as time goes on. I can give my first two villagers items now. They do ping and give gifts at least.
Boone gave me a dress and then after I ran into Marina and she commented and gave me sunglasses.
They comment when you change your appearance or when you dont change your clothes for a while.
I can give things to Boone and Pashima my starters.
Just random things? Like I gave Pashima a unexamined fossil and she was good with it?
The villagers went from just waving to each other to actually talking to each other.
I have not received a single request but again only about 3hours ago got the water permit and then I wasnt really by my villagers a lot.
I think requests will be a thing but maybe it just takes a while.

Pretty much what other people have said, I think they are still in tutorial mode and will develop with you during your time on the island! It seems more natural for them to grow along with the island, I think it’s cute! I don’t think they would just take away a huge part of the game like that. It’s still so soon to assume a lot of this stuff as no one really knows what happens!

Um ive TTed 8 days only still waiting on Nook Development and already had to catch a bug for Fauna :') GL guys there are requests so hope you get them o/

Oh and yeah I do hope I get more as I interact : )

Villager dialogue seems to be mostly based around your island's progression. The more you have set up, the more dialogue opens up. Where you talk to them also creates new dialogue as well.

i do agree, but i certainly have hopes that they will talk even more. they've been repeating dialogue a lot so far but i hope that as the game develops and as future events happen (easter is soon!) then they would speak more.

I've been noticing the dialouge isn't as interactive as before (like fulfilling villagers' requests, etc.) but maybe its; because we're still so early in the game. So far its a lot of one sentence dialouges.

I hate how quickly they get bored of talking. They haven't pinged me at all yet, and maybe It's cause we only start with two villagers, but the dialogue feels sorta repetitive. I'm sure things will turn around the more we play, though.

I've time traveled a decent amount at this point and have definitely started noticing more diverse actions / dialogue. Stick through it folks~ I have a good feeling about it :)

mine have ping'ed me 3 times (i only have two villagers: axel and diva)

also when i was talking to them, they asked me to get bugs for them

At the minute it seems a bit stale but we’re still so early into the game so I’m not making any judgements yet.

I’ve noticed they don’t ping very much and after talking to them they get fed up of you bothering them easily.

I think the dialogue will never be what it once was 15-20 years ago, simply because villagers have to be more politically correct nowadays. So they'll never be as fun and unpredictable (and entertainingly rude) as they were before, I'm afraid...

Sadly I knew this was coming they have been dumbing down the dialogue with each subsequent game, I don't see them ever getting g better. also is it just me or does EVERYONE have the same exact voice?

All of this.. yes. 100% agree. Dialogue has gotten safer and blander every game. I feel like if you gave someone who has never played the gamecube version a shot at it, they’d be amazed at some of the stuff the villagers say and how much personality they had.

I also noticed the voices are odd this time around. Very little variation. I guess with updates we’ll see how the dialogue expands, but if people are hoping for gamecube animals with all the sass + attitude, it will probably never happen.

For the record, I am a time traveler, boo.. But.. I have able sisters, the tent, the resident services upgraded, nooks cranny. I had hopkins with a thought bubble above his head, he mentioned he wanted to move out I said ok. One of them came running up to me and said he lost his backpack and I agreed to find it (but I couldn’t!) thats the first and only (sorta?) request I got.

I can give some of them stuff when I say hi, and some of them will ping me to give ME stuff. I have seen them argue with eachother twice. But overall nothing too great so far. They repeat themselves A LOT, and I also thought the lack of dialogue from the dodo airlines is weird. Kapp’n had more personality, even though the dodos are so cute, they say the same thing every trip.

So, I've just unlocked the townhall/resident services building and picked out a spot for Able sisters. Marcie requested I catch a river fish for her -- finally!! That's my first request so far.

As for pinging, I don't know if it's purely coindicental or not, but every morning ALL my villagers ping me if I run past them and then that's usually it for the day.

One of my first two villagers, Katt, has a dialogue option now where I can give her items. Don't know why because she hasn't ever asked for anything but I guess it's a neat way to give junk and maybe get something cool in return!

Same! I've had the same experiences as most here on this post. I don't even see them talking to each other. But maybe once you have a full town, it unlocks their expression?? PLEASE

It seems like we're all having a similar experience. My interactions with my starters have been terrible. They ping once a day, never say anything interesting, and are bothered if I talk to them more than a couple of times a day. With only two starters and myself, the town feels empty and the interactions don't help at all. The game is called Animal Crossing, but the developers seem to have moved all focus away from the animals.
