what's the sandro update?
Sorry I meant to say "Sanrio" to quote Google:

" The Animal Crossing Sanrio Collaboration Pack contains six different amiibo cards inspired by a selection of Sanrio properties including Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars, My Melody, and more! Each card features a villager inspired by a Sanrio character, and appropriately themed furniture. "

This is good advice! I feel like a lot of the people I see who are struggling are the ones who want to "finish" their island- find the perfect layout, the perfect decor, the perfect villagers, etc. and then just... keep it like that. Forever. I had an idea that I might want to keep some parts of my island, or some villagers, forever, but once I finally gave up on that idea I was really able to sit back and enjoy the game. Now, I don't just keep an open mind to changing things... I fully expect to. Now I decorate seasonally, and have villagers seasonally. By the time I'm bored, I've already got ideas of what to do next.

And comparing yourself to others can be a problem... though I must admit, I've visited a few random DAs that've made me feel even better about my island 😅 When I start feeling insecure about my island compared to others, I visit my favorite parts of it and just wander around... it always makes me feel better!

Taking your time and just letting yourself have fun and do island step by step is the best thing, in my opinion, that you can do to enjoy the game. And all the things you said also sound exactly like advices for feeling better with yourself btw! I think that's beautiful that learning to like your island is kind of a way to liking yourself :D

Also, let’s stop comparing our islands to other peoples islands. I used to browse AC instagrams so much and feel like such a failure with my island. Not everyone is a decorator and not everyone has the same playing style. Some people play to decorate and design and others just want to fish and hunt for bugs while hanging out with their villagers, both are OKAY!

I would get so wrapped up about wanting to make my island look perfect, but guess what? some people have to work or take care of families or have school work that needs to be done. Some people don’t have the time and hours to sink into it, so don’t feel pressured to have this perfect looking island.

Just play how you want to play and know that’s it’s enough!

Honestly, that's why I don't really like the Dream Suite. I think it's a fun feature, but I also think it leads to too much competition/dissatisfaction within the community. I think "Dream Review" threads are a bad idea for this reason. It seems like once people reset for the first time, they're never as satisfied with the results--myself included. I reset my ACNL town about 4 times, and I have never liked it as much as the original (and I only reset because I made the mistake of uploading to a dream review thread).

I’ve never reset an animal crossing game for fear of that! I remember in NL hating my town for a long time, but i was so scared if i erased i would hate the new even more. In NH i just can’t justify having to go through the beginning again. I know some people like the grindy aspect of it, but i don’t want to grind in AC.

I do agree though, the dream suite and DA threads get very competitive and i’ve seen a lot of people get offended at even great constructive criticism so i just avoid it all together. I also see some islands and i get all in my feelings because my island will forever be a work in progress haha.

I love mine still.

I have the lighthouse on a terraformed platform.

I just wish I had a spare incline.

uggghhh the incline limit is awful! just let me do what i want to do.

This is good advice. I treat this game like any other in that if I find myself stuck, I'll put the game down and do something else. Chances are good that when I come back, something will start to make sense. We're almost a year in, and I'm finally feeling content with various sections of my island, including my campsite and museum area.

Treat your island like a constant work in progress, and the stress of completion seems to melt away.

I actually typed that reply to the peninsula topic, and it posted in here. >..<

Exactly! Don't get me wrong, I still love looking at what people create in their towns, but I guess I think of it as being more artistic rather than a "blueprint".

Fortunately I've never really been too worried about things like this.
Even when I didnt like my island I still loved my island.

I dont tend to compare myself to other people as my island has been my own journey.
The houses are positioned where they are (6 of them at least) because its the way my island naturally curved.
My house is basically exactly where I placed my tent only raised onto its own platform because I vanity issues lol.
My museum is where I first placed it (okay I moved it back 1 tile).

My island tells my adventures across a year of playing the game. No other island can do that.

I may change things over time (and often do) and have areas I'm overly proud of (my campsite) but it's my home.

Plus I just remind myself as well that other islands may look nice but they also tend to have 1/3rd of the frame rate XD

Also worth remembering that (no offense to anyone at all) no one but you even cares about your island. You might make the world's most stunning island but all that will gain you is some compliments from strangers on a thread that will get buried. So play for yourself and no one else.

(Also avoid cores like the plague, you're only boxing yourself into a set of rules for no reason. Do what you think looks best, not what someone else told you looks best)

I agree to a certain extent, there is a whole community of AC players who play strictly for the design element of the game and people love to come look and discuss and showcase it. So while others may not care about your island at the end of the day getting compliments on hours of hard work is probably greatly appreciated. People play for different reasons, one reason is the decorative reason.

I guess you're not wrong and it's their choice if they want to only play to seek the validation of others, but that's only setting themselves up for disappointment.

Of course it is nice to get compliments on your hard work, I love it when I get them.
But I think above all, you should be able to design in a social vacuum and still be happy with it

I think I mentioned this in another thread but this game really can take creativity to the next level and combine that with Social Media it can be really overwhelming in a bad way. So I can see why people feel "pressured" when it comes to trying to make a good island but like I said in the OP they should not compare themselves to others and only make what they feel stands out to them.

To me, the best way to love your island is to acknowledge it'll never be perfect, and to just think about the things you love in the game and decorate with them. Don't feel obligated to decorate just to make yourself popular in social media - Decorate because you have a personal vision to enhance the gameplay by doing so.

My island's theme is eternity - a town designed to be fun to play in year-round, with plenty of flowers. And to follow this theme, I shake things up by changing my layout every so often. Nothing is set in stone, and I'm not afraid to tear down and rebuild for the seasons to keep things fresh.

Trying for a perfect island always turns stale because nothing changes once to feel you placed things perfectly, and not much new happens in the gameplay. It also makes you feel like you need to 'compare' yourself to others, as it feels like the only postgame you've got when you fix everything in place. And when to notice how weakly designed your layout looks compared to the ones popular in social media, your instincts make you feel your island is permanent, and want to start anew instead of enjoying the island you've got.

Exactly this! I'm a mixed bag sort of player myself. While I absolutely love decorating my island, I am NOT into terraforming for the most part. I've only done minimal changes with rivers and cliffs, smoothing stuff out, changing something to add a ramp, that sort of thing. Instead, I'm constantly doing stuff looking to the future for island decor. I'm currently doing my best to breed for blue roses, as I know that I want them so much for July. And I'll be changing the flower arrangements around my island every month now, and I love love LOVE changing things for the season. So far, this has kept me from having any real desire to restart my island.

Yeah same here. Personally I actually love my island the way it looks now and I so proud of myself for making it look so good.

Even after making my 2nd island I am impressed how well my design skills have improved and the advice I told myself last year has worked out in my favor. Remember its always best to never compare yourself to other people of how they design their islands. You make what you feel works and stands out to you.
