The event itself was not horrible. I think the problem was in it being so early in the game and many of us were trying to get resources. Once the spawn rates were changed, it got a lot better.
As for it being 2 weeks last year, Nintendo had no way of knowing that people would be playing so long and hard when the game came out (mainly due to the quarantine), so getting all the recipes and enough eggs for them was probably calculated on what was thought to be "normal play". Scaling it back to a week, it seems that they have taken that into consideration, so there's a learning curve on all sides of this.
I'm looking forward to replenishing my store of eggs, so I can remake a few items, having extra for energy to move trees/break rocks, and pick up the new items they'll have in the shop.
Oh yeah, and another chance to try and figure out what's behind Zipper's zipper.
