Designing or Building a Community?

Why do you play Animal Crossing?

With the older games (ACCF and ACNL) I've mostly played to build a community with my villagers since I liked how they handled the personalities in these games but with New Horizons I've noticed that I wanted to design my island more with all the new features introduced in this game and ignoring my villagers more. Sometimes I can go a week without talking to a particular villager and not even notice. I do like all the designing features that were introduced in NH, I also think that the developers are focusing too much on the visuals of the game and not on the feeling of the community that the older games have. Ideally I would want all the designing features of NH mixed with the villager dialogue and interactions of NL or CF imo.

to be honest, i wouldn’t say that i play for either of those reasons. i enjoy the designing part of animal crossing, as well as the community, but i play because not only is it relaxing, it also provides a healthy distraction from anything that’s upsetting me (new horizons especially). since this game came out, my mom has gotten sick, i’ve dealt with worsening depression, my grandmother and my cat passed away, and the kittens that i adopted only two months ago have been diagnosed with an illness that will kill them. i wouldn’t have been able to get through any of that, or be able to get through what is to come, if it weren’t for animal crossing and the friends i’ve made from it, and that’s why i play.
