First of all, I of course know that (besides appearance and hobbies) all villagers within the same personality type are technically identical, but I also know that that fact doesn't stop any of us from thinking of them as little individuals with their own unique quirks.

For instance, I have two lazies in my copy of NH right now- Punchy and Zucker. Zucker seems to act like a pretty typical lazy, he talks a lot about food and bugs and mentions grandma, and comes across more like a kid.
Punchy, on the other hand, seems to give me the really off-the-wall lazy dialogue much more often, "giant mecha-punchy powered by raisin bran" "I'm not allowed to drive cars... anymore" and on one very memorable occasion, went off on a long fourth-wall breaking tangent about how nothing about the island / the nooks makes any sense. (which ended in "psych, I dreamed that" but still) It all makes me see him as being more like a very weird, but very creative, young adult.
Both are, as far as I can remember, at about the same level of friendship with my rep, so it's likely just pure RNG that's created this difference so far.

I'm curious what similar experiences other people have had, either due to in-game stuff or just how you found yourself thinking of certain characters on your own. :unsure:

I felt this way with my uchi villagers in New Leaf. I know that they all have the same pool of dialogue, but I think it's probably a combination of appearance, head canon, and RNG on which dialogue they use when that can make them seem very different.

Pashmina seemed very snobbish and uptight. She made a couple of rude comments while visiting my house and she was always getting into arguments with my other villagers, then stomping around town angrily. She also never gave me medicine for my bee stings and laughed at my face instead.

Hazel seemed more like the laid-back tomboy. She was rough-and-tumble, but not in a mean way. She just wasn't going to let anyone mess with her.

Paula was the first uchi I had that actually seemed to capture the big sister personality. She was always sweet and it felt like she had my back if I ever needed her.

Those were just my experiences with those characters, but I think it's great how different villagers can sometimes vary so much even within the same personality and they can vary based on the perceptions of each person as well.

I get this with my lazies too - my first two were Weber and Wade. Weber felt like a chill stoner who was probably v good at music if he could hold his attention in it long enough. Wade was more an actual baby who shouldn't be living alone ;-;
I've also had three smug so far. Beardo felt very typical smug to me, Pietro is pretty friendly and soft for a terrifying clown sheep, and Julian is soft queer overcompensating for his internalised queerphobia by going hard on his magical boy aesthetic ✨ (Julian also got along v well with Weber so having chill stoner friends seemed to be good for him.)
I have a lot of headcanons about my villagers so that probably affects how I interpret them a lot too :')
