Learned this on another thread last week, can't remember which one. If you come across a fast shadow while diving, instead of spamming the A-button to try and chase it into a corner, just sneak up on it using the control stick before diving.

Tried this last night and caught both a king crab and a spider crab within maybe a minute of encountering the shadows. They still move away a bit, but it only adds a few extra seconds.

Yes this is how I caught ALL the fast sea creatures and I even caught a spider crab last night doing this, I would recommend this strategy for new and old divers alike, way more effective then spamming "A"

Yeah those sea creatures are hard to get when they are swimming away from you that fast. What I usually do is tilt the joy con slowly to sneak up on it and then drive and spam A in case it tries to take off and most times it does work, but yeah that corner trick works really well too.

I do the same but I also try to herd them near the net too, because I have terrible depth perception and sometimes I miss but the net ended up saving me.
I really enjoy collecting the creatures in AC. I hope one day they will add mines to the franchise that have their own set of collectables to find for Blathers. creatures and minerals...

I've known about and done this for a while, though even still there are some creatures that are annoying even when utilizing this method. It is generally useful though.

I never thought of this before. I'll be sure to try this out whenever I bump into a fast sea creature!

Have you tried tilting the right stick so you have a top-down view?

I've known about this since diving was first introduced to NH. It definitely made my life easier when trying to catch the fast sea creatures, lol.
