Do towns necessarily HAVE to have a theme? :/

Less disliking your town, and more disliking whoever complained about your town.

If this were a facebook you'd have 16 likes already. So what does one dislike matter?

my town doesn't have a theme and its really nice

Of course you don't need to have a theme. It's not a requirement for anything in the game.

It's one thing if they're there specifically to critique and another if it's just their preference to see themed towns. I'd say build your town however you like. After all, you and your animals are the ones that get to enjoy it every day.

My rural town doesn't have a central theme and my furniture are mix and match - it's what makes me smile that counts.

Well AC is a sandbox game. There is no set 'way' you must play the game. Do whatever you want if it makes you happy.

Mine will have a vintage feel, but I won't go hardcore with everything matching that look.

I'd venture to say that the majority of towns out there don't have a theme. It seems to be the case whenever I visit a random dream town or even sometimes when I visit other people (the tiny bit I get to see of it anyway) during trades. People just use whatever PWPs they like and decorate it however they like.

No, towns don't have to have a theme. It's cool when there is a theme, but that's not the only way to show creativity in the game.

And when it comes to critiques, I think it's best if you outline your goals for the town and ask them to focus on those during the critique.

Not at all! It's your town, feel free to do whatever you want with it! Other's towns have themes, but hey, it's their choice.

Not at all, it just gives you another dimension to play the game and find something to occupy your time.

It's really up to you. If you want to have a theme you can, and if you don't then don't have one. For example, you know how the HHA encourages you to have rooms with themes or a room with the same set? I don't really do "theme set" rooms because i think it doesn't let me be imaginative with my rooms, so i just put in furniture that looks nice with each other instead of set ones. Do you get my gist?

Yes, I don't care either! I had grand designs to have a Zen town, but it's more a random town. If you have a theme then it looks like every other town out there with the same theme imo. I'm growing bored waiting for any PWPs never mind Zen ones, so I'm rethinking what I actually want and the useless Zen projects (bell???) are outta there and some others are coming in just because I like them.

Plus I'm playing less and so my town can look how it wants as I'm past caring anymore since I got beautiful town (yea, lazy I know ;p)

This... is so wrong. I would rather say that if you don't have a theme, it looks like every other themeless thown out there, which is 98% of all towns. Also, you are totally missunderstanding what "theme" means. It doesn't only mean fairy tale, zen or modern. See for example Aika village, which has a unique horror story as its theme. I have planned a theme for my second town that has nothing to do with any PWP:s, for example.

My main towns "theme" is a village with realistic, working infrastructure. (Dream code in signature.)

Actually, 'this' is an opinion (made even more obvious by the "imo" I added just to make sure people realised) and as such cannot be wrong. Had it been a fact I may have taken it on board but nobody should ever tell anyone that their opinion is wrong. Disagree maybe, but never, ever tell someone their opinion is wrong. Luckily I'm old enough to disregard your comment, but some younger, more impressionable members could feel pretty bad about being told that they're wrong when in actual fact you just don't like what they've said. HUGE difference.

I am fully aware of what 'theme' means thank you, but please do not try to correct my grasp on the English language unless everything you subsequently say can hold up to it. (*town and *misunderstanding, by the way, and *PWPs as it is a plural and not a belonging). I would also like a reference for that statistic of 98% of towns not having a theme. Again, these are facts and not opinion, so these can be (and are) wrong. Your opinion on how you would 'rather say' something is an opinion, and not wrong.

Plus I have no idea who you are and why you take so much issue with my comment in particular rather than other members who have said the same thing as me?! Note that like you, I have not been nasty, but still - it's not very nice, is it?

No... Just, no >.>
If you don't have a theme it doesn't look like every themeless town out there, they are same'ish but everyone has their own take on what they want to do with their town. I have quite a few friends without a theme, and our towns are completely different. You can do what you want with your town.

Anyways, this thread has gotten crazy o.o It's the first thread i've posted that has actually gotten this many replies. Haha.

Also, thank you all for the kind things said :) <3
