Do villagers use their beds?

I know that when you visit villagers, you're able to lay in their bed, but does anyone know to what extent the villagers themselves use their beds? Like. Are beds purely decoration and our own benefit? The reason I'm asking is because when decorating, I've always tried to keep an open pathway to the bed, but I've never walked in in a villager laying in it. So, if I block the bed either by a 2x2 (or bigger) furniture piece, does it have any effect?


Here are some examples on my island currently where I've blocked the bed:

1. I decided to decorate Genji's home like a bathhouse, so I put his bed way in the corner where he can't reach it. When I visit, he just walks around. Regardless, will probably keep the bed there, even if there's no effect.

2. I blocked the foot of Sherb's bed with a toy robot. It was clear before, but hence my thread question, I decided I had a 1x1 free space to add another toy.

Personally, I haven't seen a villager in bed, but Shari tells me (whenever she's standing near her bed) that her rose bed is comfortable and she's "out like a light" every night. I guess they go to bed whenever we're not playing? Lol

I've never seen a villager lying on a bed in their house but they will do that on beds that are outdoors.Perhaps the game assumes that the villagers get all their sleep at night and don't need to be in bed during the day.Also,they won't even get in bed when they're sick.

I've only ever seen villagers lay on beds outside. I can actually watch them lay on beds inside their vacation homes in HHP, but that doesn't really count. I suppose it would be an inconvenience trying to get their attention if they were laying in bed inside their house; heck, I don't think you can even talk to them at all if they're laying down. As some houses can be more cramped than others, this is likely why.

I really wouldn't mind villagers laying in their beds (if they have any) if they are sick in the next game; the interaction exists in HHD and HHP, so it wouldn't be hard to move it over to the mainline game I would think. Even if it's limited to just talking, it's better than no interaction at all.

i’ve never seen a villager use a bed on their own. actually when i was younger, for some reason it used to really irritate me that some villagers didn’t have beds in their houses LOL. i used to gift them beds so they would have one, just for them to never use them. i’ve grown out of that now

Thank you all for your insights I guess I'm free to block it or not even add a bed except for decorations purposes. It would be nice if the game allowed them to lay in the bed when the 2x1 in front is clear since they seem to sit on chairs when placed.


@PugLovex I totally get that! When you couldn't edit villager homes, it would really annoy me too lol.

they must be highly self concious in their homes, because I have never once seem them in bed indoors
