Do you buy items/bells/diys/etc. or do you progress your island organically?

I buy items and DIYs, like I've reset my island before and obtaining all those basic DIYs again is just easier if you're purchasing it from someone else. There are things I like to obtain by myself, like art and seasonal/holiday items, but I think trading is also just a natural part of the game if you're aiming for completion or your island doesn't have certain colour variants.

I usually buy and sell turnips online to get bells, either on this website or turnip.exchange. I think I've made about 20 mil bells collectively doing so, but I gave about half to my sister to help her develop her island and pay off her home loans since she is a casual player and doesn't have the time irl to grind bells. The rest I used to pay off my home loans and design my island. I do a lot of building and tearing down stairs and bridges to see how they look so that's why I got so much bells!

-I rely on buying and selling turnips to make bells. I have enough bells to pay off my final loan for both characters, but haven't done so because I don't see the point.

-A majority of the DIYs have come from a friend of mine who keeps DIYs on the beach for me to look over when I visit. He's been a big help to me when I restarted my island a few months ago.

-I've completed most of Redd on my own, though I time traveled to do so. The same friend that leaves DIYs for me will also let me know when Redd is on his island and what he has.

-I have bought items from other people before, especially if I'm looking for a specific color variant. I've also bought specific hybrids from other people (blue rose is one example, I don't have the motivation to try to grow my own).

I honestly dislike online trading, sometimes people make a trade really long when it shouldn't be, other put stuff at really high prices.

I rather grind for my own stuff, at least I found my way to grind and get things like villagers, seasonal DIYs, star fragments, Celeste's DIYs, turnips and materials without having to use online trading.

I still would use online trading for other DIYs and maybe flowers.

At the beginning I definitely progressed organically. It was so slow but to be honest I was scared of trading (I was also scared of posting or even being seen 😂)

I made bells with turnips but my internet was slow and the whole queueing and cutscenes and being disconnected was very frustrating 🙈 Most of my bells were made through selling fishbait as it was hard to make but valuable as a lot of people had more bells than time I guess.

I have only bought one diy which I was massively overcharged for (because I asked 🙈) I met my first amazing friend Becky and got to catalogue anything I wanted free 💕 My love for the game was greatly enhanced by all the cool stuff I got from @Hobowire a true legend 💜

It’s the community here that is so special. All I hope is that I have given back all the kindness I have been given. Sorry for essay, I am not quite so scared now 🥺 😛💜

if you need i think i have a surplus of stuff still. i haven't touch the game lately ;p

in my opinion trading and farming is pretty organic. you meet some great ppl along the way :) (cough... Roxxy)

Last island of mine I bought a lot a lot a lot... spent more than 500tbt in a few days I think lol
But even with all these items I cannot do anything nice on my island and preferred to reset. My ideas were not bad, I love my project, but maybe I went too far too quickly again? So now, I think I'll just buy the items I really need and cannot find anymore (like the Asian ones sold during a limited time, the lamp and the dolls... don't remember the names)
I'll take my time even if I'm not patient, even if I want to see my projects to be finish (and have a really nice island as we can see on the internet) but I'll do my best to respect that. Maybe in a month (I'm dreaming lol) I'll begin to buy more and more!

Surely will buy some bells and NMT however. It's easier, and I'm not a big fan of turnips. Last time, 500k disappeared because I just forgot to sell... I'm dumb
Maybe will looking for some materials and diy as well, if someone wants to share or whatever! I'll try not to make a list of furniture right now.

I’ve definitely gotten most of my items by obtaining them online, be it with bells or by way of trade. You can only get so many color variants without WiFi, and the ones you want are likely ones that won’t show up on your island. I’ve met a few nice people who didn’t overcharge for certain items or let me catalog them for free.
