one of my favourite things about AC is hearing the stories and lore that players create about their islands so I thought I’d make a thread where we can share ours! it may also give newer players some ideas for backstories to help develop their own islands ^^

my island is named Stardust as it was once a sacred and famed island for travellers and astrologers to come and study the stars, inhabited solely by an owl and her human best friend. over time the island became deserted and overgrown but was rediscovered years later but a budding astrologer, Cara, moved there as part of a getaway package. driven by her love of the stars she began to help rebuild the town again and gave it the name Stardust to both honour it’s roots and to give a new lease of life. Now the island is a mix of a cosy yet vibrant town where residents can enjoy a variety of activities and leisures under a beautiful sky, and the original enchanted forest that was once the stuff of legend. The island’s abandoned observatory has even begun to be restored after the original owner’s great granddaughter Luna moved there after hearing her best friend Celeste talk about her visits there to see the stars.

Writing lore for your island is super fun!

I've not gotten anything in stone but I've got it in my head that Archaia was the home of the last surviving dinosaurs, hence the large number of fossils in the island's ground!

Also I totally have it in my head that Wisp is not the spirit of a human

I haven't figured out why it's there yet, but I have a mossy stone tablet surrounded by fencing with weird rocks and a scarecrow by it on an inaccessible clifftop island. It was there when we moved in and will be there long after our bones are fossils in the ground for some new player to dig up.

I don’t have a specific backstory for my island yet, but I like to imagine that my island use to be a popular island among sailors and pirates years ago and at some point someone covered the island in asphodel flowers as a tribute to their fallen love or something.
By the time the getaway package happened my character knew about the story, but she didn’t find out it was her island until she came across an old crumbles stone tribute dedicated to the story on the beach while looking for somewhere to set up her tent. That night she decided to name the island Asphodel after the story, and it just fit even more when she ran into Wisp.

Somnus isn't exactly what it is sadly. The island lore is more of a continuation of the NL plot I had.

Charlotte (aka Hime) was sent to the military to be able to experience another perspective in life, she's known to be cruel, manipulative, superficial and thinks money can solve everything (since she was an only child of a rich company man). It never exactly helped her the way her father hoped but the incident of her burning a colleague's face (Elroy) as a joke made her think back on her actions but was also punished for her bad behavior.

Since that incident, she started seeing others as animals (some sort of hallucination) her father sent her to live in an isolated town for respite since he thought it was some sort of stress reaction. Elroy worked under Hime as repentance and to properly apologize to him but she really doesn't understand how to be empathetic until the progression of the town and Mitzi's undying loyalty and acceptance towards her. Though, a travelling detective, Amagi keep tabs on her as ordered by her father (also a tribute character to my favorite Japanese play called LENS)

She turned into a "new leaf" (a.k.a Animal Crossing: New Leaf) and became more understanding and realized the consequences of her actions. While she still remained cruel and childish, she displays more care towards others.

Same progression to New Horizons. She's starting to lose her cruel demeanor but still is childish when it comes to approaching things. The detective, Amagi, tags along and his co-worker Fang to watch over Hime as ordered. Somnus (Island) is more or less a little island for those who need to flee from their problems or needed a place to belong to (which resonates to several residents).

Hime offers a lot of quality of life improvements for others and starts to genuinely have friends (like Mitzi and Jacques).

(Also Elroy will be joining the island once I properly terraformed the areas. Elroy is somewhat now has an arranged marriage thing with Hime because his family's company is actually a subsidiary of her father's company.)

I think that's the basic synopsis of the island lore so far.

For some reason I never considered that Wisp WAS the spirit of a human....I might weave that into my lore... the last caretaker of my foresty island in the middle of the Atlantic. :ROFLMAO:

According to Muffy, my island lore is that my island is an ancient burial ground (fossils - she said this during teaching the cold chill reaction). That's all I've got. ;)

To go along with what I already said, maybe Wisp is a dinosaur? That'd be hilarious.

not sure if i like my lore or not, but considering wisp is a thing, i'm basically considering my island to, well, not really exist?

it's just there, basically purgatory and the villagers that move out/get adopted or voided just have it in themselves to pass on and accept their fate, but those who are unable to just stay. my res. rep is more than happy to welcome them with open arms and share some late night talks with them, and no matter how long it takes them to move on, it's alright - even if they're unable to do it, my island won't go away and neither will their home. departures are the sappiest event ever, because that means you'll never get to see each other again (most likely, at least) but if you do and have the misfortune of coming back and not remembering your former friends, it's alright. there's nothing to worry about - no matter how many unfamiliar faces wash up on the shore and no matter how many blank ones you see in the star shaped lake, you are you and before you can pass on, you might as well make some memories.

am i basically creating a horror island without really making it creepy? seems like it.

I don't have anything elaborate or solid, but I feel like my village/island, Escapa has existed for hundreds of years. It's an old rural mountain village with deep roots in nature and ties to magic/fairies that had very few residents to begin with. My villager and my two starter villagers, along with the Nooks were all the only villagers left on the island when the game started, but over time, more people discovered the natural charm and enchantment of Escapa.

Nook's Cranny is located on a mountain top and in my island's lore, is the oldest standing building.

My villager and my two starter villagers (Cherry and Jitters) were childhood friends.

The lore to my island is that it was created by two brother deity fish, the day fish and the night fish.

The night fish created the land, the mountains, the river, and supplied the island with the gift of the native fruit, peaches! The day fish habituated the island with other means of life, being the bugs and fish, and is what provides the remains of species long extinct each day.

The villagers who moved to the island witnessed only the day fish creating life, and began to worship it. The day fish loved the praises of the villagers, so it gave one last gift to them being the last of the fruits they were missing: apples. The villagers were so pleased with the apples that they planted them in many places across the island. They also erected a shrine to the day fish inside one of the two tallest mountains on the island, and also the most visible mountain. The day fish felt bad for his brother, as he also initially created the island itself, and asked the villagers to make him a shrine. The villagers were confused, because they’ve never seen the night fish since they were always asleep. Because of their love for the day fish, they created a shrine for the night fish in the other tallest mountain on the island.

The night fish was pleased to finally get its recognition, so it also tried to create life for the villagers. The only life it managed to create, however, were harmful bugs such as the wasp, tarantula, and scorpion. The night fish was proud of the gifts it gave, but the villagers were greatly displeased as these insects were hurting a lot of them. They damaged the shrine erected to the night fish in their frustrations. As a result, the night fish withdrew in sorrow, and laid a field of black tulips in front of its shrine to show the villagers how sad they had made him. Regardless, the villagers only continued to praise the day fish.

The day fish, displeased with the villager’s actions, gave them one last “gift,” the gift of the secret beach. The villagers were pleased with this gift, as it allowed Redd to harbor his ship and provide the villagers with another place to shop. They also assumed since Redd could only anchor close to the day fish, that the day fish would always protect them from the harms that Redd could enact. The day fish knew about Redd’s antics, and intentionally looks away any time he tries to scam the residents. The day fish hopes one day that the villagers will see that they treated his brother poorly, and only then will he stop them from getting scammed by the cruel fox.
