Do you have any sorts of fun headcanons for your villagers?

Yes! I’ve talked about this for years, but i am convinced that Lobo and Shari are married in my AC universe.

So, in New Leaf Shari was new and I got her and I just absolutely loved her. I had a villager move out and Lobo moved in and plopped his house right next to hers. I didn’t plot plan or anything. They ALWAYS sat on the benches together, talked to each other, hung out.

I played Pocket Camp for a while and they have furniture that your camp villagers interact with. Every time there was an item placed that only two could interact with they only interacted with each other with those items. I have some cute screenshots of them doing stuff together.

Now in NH I scanned in Shari and then Lobo was my next campsite villager. I knew I had to have him. Even in NH they live next to each other, sit together, hang out at each other’s houses, talk frequently. He’s always sending her make up gifts from when they fight.

I am convinced they are married and I love them.

I don’t imagine any of my villagers to be in relationships. It’s a bit weird for me to picture virtual pixels of animals, no less, dating. I don’t mind dating in video games, but it only works if the feature is implemented well.

However, I do like to imagine that my villagers all get along. They are all friends in my eyes, and I love all of them. More specifically, I imagine Goldie and Bea to be best friends on my island. It consists of eight dogs and two wolves. Obviously, I picture the two wolves to be the leaders of the pack. It’s fun to imagine these things.

Roswell and Alli live together, despite having separate houses. I might at some point consider redecorating their homes to reflect that.

Not really headcanons but I like to imagine what their families are like back home. Like Shari’s parents are kinda savage like her, Reneigh has a wise old grandma, Flora was spoiled, etc.

Yes and yes I imagine it all the time. I have my own original story that I am currently writing so of course that creativity reflects in the games I play and that includes games like Animal crossing. I wouldn't be enjoying NH so much if I didn't create headcanons about the characters as my island has a bunch of lore to it. My character Laria Nook is the adoptive daughter of Tom Nook and I decided on that based on Tom Nook being in most game the mentor character (also because I really like Tom Nook as a character) and Timmy and Tommy are her brothers in a way.
My favorite character and the one that made me want to start creating headcanons is Jay, the jock bird. The first animal crossing game I played was WW and in that game Jay liked fossils and his room was really well decorated with a bunch of violins. At the time I didn't know villagers had personality types but it was clear by the way he spoke how athletic driven he was and I found it curious that he liked instruments and fossils and didn't fell into the stereotypical jock. Then in new leaf Jay was a jock that had dialog more focused on inner mind strength while for example Lyman (the other jock I had at the time) had dialog more focused on body strenght. Plus Jay would constantly ask me for fruit as the other villager didn't ask as much and that became his trait. I would open the game expecting Jay to ask me for fruit and he sure did sharing words of wisdom right after that to make me feel better XD. From all the interactions I had with Jay plus how he acted in the game ignited the creative in me and I started to create a headcanon about Jay and it spread to wanting to create headcanons for other villagers. My Jay headcanon is he's an atheletic bird that seems like your typical dumb jock as that is like he present himself but once you get to know him he's actually very smart and has good advise to share with you. He likes fossils and music besides his usual athletic abilities. Jay is very insecure deep inside and that is why he works out so he can be strong for himself and others. Jay doesn't have many friends and likes to keep his distance since he doesn't think much of himself and this headcanon came from me playing NL and NW as I noticed Jay would only speak with me and later he opened up to Muffy, Zell and a bit to Agent S and no one else. He's very protective of his small group of friends.
I don't want to write too much so I will quickly mention I had Velma and Roscoe become a couple in NL and was a very healthy one, Zell and Muffy were my first sisterly and smug villagers and they slowly became a couple as well. Agent S like Jay kept to herself but unlike Jay she talked to every villager and it didn't depend on my character as much. Lyman turned into yandere for my character because he is jealous the other jock (that's Jay) is getting all the attention and yeah my headcannons can also turn dark. In fact the story I have for Laria Nook is dark and not always happy.
With the NH I didn't expect to create any headcanons at all because of how the boring the villagers had become. Funny enough my first jock in that game was Lyman XD so yeah I'm right! He's is obsessed with my character. Anyway eventually I had him move out and replaced him with Jay (I'm sorry I'm so mean to Lyman) and had new villagers move in so I could create headcanons about them but NW is not the game for that unfortunately. Jay was only interesting to me because I had already had an headcanon about him and if he didn't he would be as boring as the others. However there is one exception to this rule and it came around the time of the animal crossing 2.0 update!
With the late update of NW new characters were introduced and at first by appearance the character I really liked was Petri however with one spot free on my island I challenged myself to pick the first 2.0 villager that appeared in the mystery island even if it wasn't Petri. Well the first one for me was Marlo, a hamster that I admit at the beginning I didn't care much for since I am a bit tired of people obsession with the mafia theme. I let him move in anyway and oh boy that was the best decision I did in this game without realizing.
I don't know how but the game code made him a really interesting character in the way that he was in the island causing problems as the usual mafia boss would but at the same time he was failing in love with Jay (who kept the town safe as a hero of sort). Jay is insecure and never had a reason to step up for people but now with a villain on the island Jay had found a purpose to become a hero and to start to connect with the other animals (plus he could put his muscles to good use). My first headcanon for Marlo was he was going to be a villain mafia and when I got his picture he would leave but man did he break that role I put him into and started to act like a timid tsundere hamster around Jay. He started to fight Jay's friends, he even dated another jock bird (that was sparro) to make Jay jealous and Jay responded by dating Merengue. The two idiots would never talk to each other but would make sure to get each other attentions through other means and then I was on the background eating popcorn and laughing at it. Then I kid you not during the firework show Jay decided it was a good idea to kiss Marlo in front of everyone, it felt like an anime or even a persona video game. A few months later they have a duet together with the help of the love expert Jacques and then end up together. I sure felt like a side character in a romantic villain/hero movie. In this year valentine Jay spent it together with Marlo and that's how the hero defeated the mafia guys. By the power of love XD This to say Marlo is the only exception of a brand new villager that has actually a pretty fun headcanon to him but in part that was because he was smart and started to get involved with my favorite character Jay in a way that I didn't fell in was annoying and very wholesome in a way. Bonbon in NL had a crush on Jay, it was so annoying but fun in a way since she was trying to make me jealous and then there was Merengue that decided to try and date Jay while he was having issues with Marlo and sure it was fun too since I like drama. I found it curious for a bird like Jay that no one cared for all of the sudden he had a mafia hamster and cake rhino interested in him.
What a ride! But that's what makes animal crossing games interesting to me. I watch how the character interact with me and other character plus the environment around them and from that I create my head cannons.
Sorry for the long text but as you can see I like to headcanon a lot all thanks to Jay and more recently Marlo.

I don't have Pietro currently but this reminds me of that Twitter post where the person's mom put a tombstone outside of Pietro's house. They asked why and the mom said it was his wife, and Pietro moves her grave with him every time he moves. The person asked if she thought he was responsible, and she said something like, "I don't know, but I know he loved her very, very much, maybe too much." Every time I see Pietro now I think of that, so I guess I've accepted her headcanon. Look it up, it's one of my favorite cursed posts I've ever seen.

Edit: Went and found the link to the screenshots so everyone can experience this cursed story.

Soooo I ended up writing way too much in my notes. X’D Yeah, I have headcanons, specifically about the roles of villagers I plan to have on my island. But before I share those I’ll share some based on villagers I’m kicking out and villagers who left already or who were never on my island.

  1. Leonardo’s pic is one he sent back after moving out. He was a close friend of everyone on the island but moved on and grew a successful business.
  2. Rolf and Leonardo are childhood friends. Leonardo moved out partly to be closer with Rolf again and Leonardo’s business ventures promote/tie into Rolf doing sports (see his pic which has ski/snowboarding gear).
  3. Keaton’s photo is in Phoebe’s house because he was her dance teacher or ex (undecided, but dance teacher sounds better).
  4. Drago used to live by the sea and while he didn’t know this or his own power, was destined to return. He blessed the sea around the island, his presence and memories of him like a good luck charm.
  5. Groucho comes from Japan and has a zen side. He never really fit where he came from and his loneliness and other experiences toughened him.

so here are condensed versions of my other headcanons because to be honest I don’t want the entire post which is just wayyy too long- I don’t have most of these villagers yet either but I have headcanons developed

  1. The island cul-de-sac has parties in the square and on the beach next to it. You can see little pieces from each villager decorating the place. Lobo is like a lifeguard/general guard/overlooks with care. Marshal brings live tunes, acoustic guitar and stuff. Lopez is like the suave bartender, dim lighting house and stuff. Phoebe is the fiery dancer and brings fitness lessons. Dom is sporty and brings sport games and more fitness and a sort of surfer attitude.
  2. If I can be frank Dom is like the island himbo. XD He actually gets along well with Lobo who also has an interest in keeping fit and just general strentgh. Lobo is naturally the strongest on the island so carries it a lot. Both also have some low-brow kinda humor and speech.
  3. Marshal is chill and artistic and cultured.
  4. Lopez and Marshal are rivals, because while both speak similarly, Marshal is much more self-aware and Lopez is headstrong. Lopez is kind of the drama causer of the island or someone you love to hate but definitely not a bad guy.
  5. Lopez has a one-way rivalry with Lobo because he doesn’t like to accept Lobo’s advice due to his ego. Also Beastars reference, Lobo and Legosi, Lopez and Louis. XD
  6. Lopez and Reneigh are a power couple. They initially clashed but got through to one another and have cool similarities and are exciting and interesting to eachother.
  7. Reneigh is actually sort of philosophical. Not in a pretentious way, but while she loves to party, she went through a lot and is wise past her years. Kind of meditative. She’s a stand-up sort of gal. Her role on the island is sort of a florist/gift shop owner and her stall merged with Able’s and is at the entrance.
  8. I don’t need to say much about Phoebe because her design speaks for itself but she doesn’t have her own bullet point and she deserves it. Her fired-up nature comes from her family/culture who she loves and her fitness hobby comes because she wants to stay in top shape for dancing. She’s competitive.
  9. Tammi helps decorate the island, provite things like cushions and other comfy furniture, has a brighter islander bar (kind of Audie aesthetic, coconuts, fruit, not like city bar like Lopez) and also provides some stuff like board games.
  10. Zucker inadvertently creates a lot of wacky situations and can be awkward and stuff. I‘m not trying to imply or say anything dumb or rude, just want someone silly and kinda airheaded like that on my island.
  11. Bettina and Zucker are actually close friends. They have cooking in common but draw from different cultures and cook different types of food and share that. Personality-wise they’re also complimentary, a more meek but sweet motherly mouse and a naive carefree silly octopus.
  12. Bettina and Lobo are kind of a voice of reason across the entire island, both compliment eachother‘s personalities as well, both are looked up to for different kinds of advice and comfort.
  13. Ankha researches and collects relics for her own interest. Overall, Ankha isn’t selfish or standoffish but simply self-interested. She lives for herself, really is like royalty. She likes to share her research when the island calls for it, and sometimes can accidentally gossip, but she is ultimately benevolent. Also, she’s like a living good luck charm for the island too. Her presence benefits the flora of the island and next to her house is the only pond, which represents how rare nature can flourish thanks to her.
  14. In summary, maybe Ankha can be aro/ace. :p I don’t headcanon a lot of relationships anyway, but I wanted one on my island and Lopez/Reneigh seemed perfect. Otherwise I definitely headcanon that Marshal is bi/bi (like myself). I don’t think about the orientations of AC characters a lot, so anyone else is up in the air or just too innocent for me to even headcanon anything about it, but including a bit of it is fun for me.

I have an all-cat island. I think of Tom as its wise old elder who lives by himself in the woods.

Ankha, Raymond, and Merry are in their own little high class neighborhood outside of the city center. Raymond and Ankha are an on-again, off-again couple and a great source of gossip for glam girl wannabe Merry.

Katt and Kid Cat live out in the sticks down a spooky road from Tom. Kid Cat annoys his neighbors by flexing and using his (imaginary) superpowers to inadvertently cause mayhem. Tom is slowly becoming fond of him and sees him as kind of a son. What Kid Cat doesn't know is that Tom is secretly a retired supervillain who's gone soft in his older years.

In the main part of town dwells the Normals and Lazies, usually a low-key bunch. However, Bob and Punchy sometimes get into stupid things like eating fireflies or shoving food into their noses. Punchy is the smarter of the two and is usually the one tricking Bob into silly dares. But they're bros at heart no matter what they get into.

Lastly, the Normal girls, Mitzi and Lolly, are very pleasant, kind individuals whose social outings mainly revolve around touring the museum or holding book club meetings together. These meetings are sometimes interrupted by their Lazy troublemaking neighbors. They're quite forgiving of these trespasses however and just don't answer the door when a rowdy neighbor calls.

Hope you all enjoyed my little tour of Pookytopia's residents. It was fun writing it. 😹

I don't have actual couples, but I do have some established relationships for my villagers.

Gruff and Dobie knew each other back when they were young, but lost touch. Now they are retired and live next door to one another. They've settled into a solid friendship and worked it out between themselves to look out for the rest of the island (what with them all being whippersnappers and all).

Each of them has taken one of the normal girls under their wing, sort of as a surrogate granddaughter. Gruff and Sally visit back and forth, while Dobie has grown close to Lolly. Dobie also has a spirited friendship with Cherry. The two love to kid around, but they also look out for each other.

Sally and Filbert are cousins. When she moved to the island, she promised their grandmother she'd keep an eye on him. Once she got here, she realized that Snake needs just as much looking after. To be honest, Filbert and Snake share one braincell.

Cherry and Purrl are good friends, though they do get on each others' nerves from time to time. Still, they are loyal gals and will stand up for each other, no matter what.

Purrl has a bit of a crush on Gruff, but he doesn't notice, and she isn't that far gone, so it doesn't hurt anyone.

Both Cherry and Purrl are helping Lolly and Sally become more assertive. This is mostly because Lionel, who is harmless but a terrible flirt. He lives in a neighborhood with Flora, Purrl, and Lolly, so naturally assumes they're all in love with him. Actually, he doesn't flirt with Flora. She has won his respect (most of the time) through her ruthless video game skills - she wipes the floor with him every time. Purrl and Cherry have no problem deflecting Lionel, and under their guidance, Lolly and Sally are getting better at putting him in his place.

Lolly and Sally, by the way, are best friends who love to get together for tea and book talk. They wish the others on the island shared their interests, but they think everyone has something to contribute to the community. Having discovered that Cherry is talented at growing flowers, they both make requests for blossoms to garnish their cooking. Because they share freely, Cherry is happy to oblige.

Flora loves in her own little bubble, most of the time. She would like to be better friends with Cherry and Purrl, but she is a little intimidated by Cherry's forthrightness and Purrl's sophistication.

Tybalt is a con artist who is dating quillson.

Tiansheng is hooking up with flip.

Kidd is literally the devil

Raymond of course plays the stalk Market runs a successful tech company selling computer software.

Sherb is an infant who got lost and wondered on to a plane that took him to my island.

Egbert is suffering from mental health issues but doesn't tell anyone.

And Megan used to live in a cozy hut in the forest before moving to my island.
She wanted to be one of the characters she would read about.

Nothing too crazy this time around (my second island)

bro i want your island so badly. it sort of reminds me of stars hollow and all its quirky little residents from the gilmore girls, idk if you've ever seen that show. your island seems so cute though and i would love a dream address or to get a tour because you are living the dream island life, my friend.

Aww thank you. I've been working heavily on my island this week. Even made a butterfly shaped pond on my cliffs. Hm, maybe Ankha and (Dr.) Raymond (he's the doctor on HHP island) can have a few romantic dates there...if Bob and Punchy don't interrupt them.

I'll be sure to upload a DA and post it in the DA thread when I feel a little more "finished" with my island. Can't wait to share its quirky residents with the world.

Haven't seen Gilmore Girls unfortunately. Now I kinda want to.

Zucker has a little insect area right behind his house, it’s tiny… and displays insect models around a cage behind his house thinking they’d be like friends. Problem is he chose a tarantula and cicada shell… The cicada shell is obviously extra hollow and he picked the tarantula since it had eight legs like Zucker himself- unfortunately, he didn’t realise other insects and people find it scary.

Zucker displays new year’s decorations around his house all year simply because he thinks it would be fun. It’s like a kid who always wants it to be Christmas. Zucker is right about having those decorations by and in his house, though.

Bettina has a paw-print doorplate much larger than her own paw since the imprint was left by some larger animal who was a mentor (crush?) of hers and helped her come out of her shell.

I like to think Barold and Olive are an old married couple.

Cole and Avery are my Beach Bums. They are the only villagers that were placed on the beach. That beach also happens to be my junkyard area. Their house interiors are very sloppy. They actually have my favorite houses. I wasn’t expecting their houses to turn out like they did, but I’m loving the messy hoarder look. I like to pretend they own the junkyard and are also my junkyard boys. Their house interiors and exteriors are very different from the rest.

Roscoe likes to exercise a lot. For some reason his house exterior and interior ended up getting a lot of exercising equipment. That was not the original plan. Now I like to pretend he is some mysterious jock that keeps to himself.

Then there’s Cube. Cube became my mailman. I had made a little post office in my island, and Cube just really fit into that area.

This is so cute! I actually gave my Zucker a little insect keeping area behind his house, but it's much less developed than what you've described.
