Small cities for me. Preferably between 150,000 - 300,000 people. It's what I grew up with and it feels right. Big city living for me was a mixed bag since I got sensory overload very easily and it was super expensive, but I loved the massive library system, shopping opportunities, and endless supply of tasty restaurants. Small town living was awful since I ran into the same people over and over again, you have to drive far to do a lot of things, and there's very little to do outside of things like hiking.
A small city isn't overwhelming, but there's still proper development and things to do.
I lived in a small neighborhood as a kid (i was too little to remember); a small city after that (before the final move). I liked where we lived better. There used to be only a few houses where we used to live, but then a neighborhood was build down the road and since then it was so loud at night. I’d hear people having parties, fireworks (even though there was a law about shooting them off on no holidays), dogs barking (I don’t fault the dogs; I don’t think a lot of my neighbors took good care of their dogs)z at weird hours and late at night. I have sensitive hearing and it really bothered my anxiety.
Ideally I prefer a place that is quiet. i don’t think i’d like living in the countryside but I know I wouldn’t want to live in New York City or somewhere like that.
So far I've lived in two places: a suburb of a larger city and a small (college) town.
I like suburbs the most.
I looked at the cities in the state I'm moving to, to see if I could be okay with that life, but I don't really like the whole feel of the city. It makes me uneasy. Too many people, too much noise, too many tall buildings surrounding me. I'm used to living in a suburb that in my childhood was at the very edge and darn-well near rural. Now it's technically a small city. I like it better today than back when I was a child, so yeah, I like the larger suburb feel.
I don't like small towns, either.
I voted "small city" because that's what my hometown is.
i grew up in a small town so i think i naturally prefer the ambiance of a close-knit community, but now i work and travel to a few different small cities and i like how there are always things to do in comparison.
Never grew up in a city, it was always towns or villages.
I do prefer these areas over cities tho, there's less crime and it's generally more quiet (basically it's a 'if you don't bother others they won't bother you' type of thing). Though it is far from perfect, my current area is a dead-end kind of place so job opportunities are really bad here if you are disabled in any way and people here are 10-20 years behind the rest of the world. So it's hard to talk to anyone, like I'm a huge nerd (anime, books, games) and finding anyone with the same interests is basically impossible and mostly the stuff I like is considered 'just for kids' anyways. But hey, when I do find someone, we both give eachother the knowing nod of approval and say 'hey nice merch' before going about our days. And thanks to my area being so behind in the times, the boomers here are either super chill (have no idea about the current political climate) or are crazy religious (like the kind who stand at the corner with signs and all that) - I've worn pride stuff multiple times, and 90% of the time people think I just really like rainbows.
I have lived in both cities and towns before and they each have their own advantages. I do really enjoy the peace and quiet of a town. Cities have a lot better restaurant/take out options and entertainment opportunities. I would say I like them both equally just for different reasons.
I've lived in both cities and towns. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. Towns have a better community vibe where everyone knows someone, but seem to be limited in experiences/opportunities (especially retail therapy lol). Cities have more opportunities and activities, but then you have to deal with traffic, more people etc. I slightly prefer cities just for the convenience of having everything around you.
I voted the bottom one, as I am not sure if it corresponds to any of the above options, but my ideal living place would probably be a rural area in an isolated house.
