I'm basically talking about all forms of figures in the dark. (I'm not sure what else to call them, let me know if they have a specific name!)

Like when you wake up in the middle of the night and you see a figure looming over your bed but it's actually your coat hanging off your chair, or you see a person folded up in the corner shaking and twitching uncontrollably but it's just a pile of laundry. Or maybe when you drive at night for 9+ hours and you start seeing monstrous shadow creatures that are as tall as the sky.
These are only a few of my personal experiences, but that kind of thing.
(Regarding the shadow people made out clothes and other common items- I see their faces pretty clearly)

When I was younger and I saw my first one, I was terrified. I think I hid under my covers and wasn't sure what to do.

Now, I do any of the following:
1) I get up abruptly and start punching the hell out of it. I give it a good beating.
2) I stare into their eyes until I can no longer see the illusion. Then I get up and start beating it.
3) I ignore them.

Now when I see them though, I either welcome them or remain neutral.

So I want to ask , what do you do when you see them? How do you feel when you do?

When I was a kid, I was really afraid of the dark, so things like this happened often. There’s one night that was the most terrifying, I was sleeping in the living room, and it was pitch black. I woke up suddenly and saw a dark figure staring at me from across the room. I freaked out and quickly buried myself under my blanket, waiting for it to move. When nothing happened, I finally peeked out and stared at it long enough to realize it was just a balloon! Growing up, I don’t really see “them” anymore. It’s unsettling and I’m glad it doesn’t happen

Now this is terrifying! I don’t know what to think if that happened to me, most of mine usually just stayed in place

In some religions, they are actual entities. But they aren't just a coat on a hanger with a closer look. They vaporize into nothing with a closer look. They are attracted to negativity and can but not always be a bad omen. They are often a taboo topic and should not be talked about because that can attract them as well. They aren't spirits as in ghosts, but rather entities from another existence or dimension.
That's all I know, but I know more information out there exists than what I shared but you'd have to find an elder who is willing to share if they even think it is beneficial to share. There are "different" ones from my understanding but the different ones could just them being seen more clearly some times over other times. Some have red eyes while others don't or have a top hat like thing or hight differences or darkness shade differences.

My mother has told a story about leaving my older brother in the bathroom as a baby. She walked out briefly and across the room she saw the figure of a male shadow walk inside into the bathroom.

Her father in law had just passed away.

She suspects he was checking on my baby brother who was unattended.

Pet death below

There's only one instance I can remember when my old cat was euthanized. She was sick and had cancer. No one told me today was the day it was happening nor was I aware there was talk about it. I came home from school and saw her in the window just chilling in the garage that we keep closed. Which I thought was odd. So I asked my mom why she was in the garage and she was like 'oh yeah I had to put her down this morning.'

And the angle she was perched on the window sill and where the cooler/her body was, was perfectly aligned like she was just looking at herself in the box. It's the only instance I have of this. Dumb kid me didn't think twice and went inside not even bothering to look back in the window.

No, but I have had what I think of a paranormal experience.

When I was 12 or 13, I saw a man standing in front of my bed. He was a tall, thin, old man with a mustache. He was talking to me about a man who saw “strange things in his eyes”. The entire time I heard a strange buzzing in my ear. When he was gone, I couldn’t go back to sleep. My parents said it was a dream, but when I asked my mom about it later on, she said she thought it was real and it scared her.

A few times when I was older, (I think this is more sleep paralysis) I felt someone press down on my shoulders and shout “NO!” in my face. I saw this same figure leave my room and run down the hall. Another time I heard a scream in another room. But during stressful times, I have woken up with that pressure on my chest, and something hissing or shouting in my face.

I personally have not seen any figures that I confidently say are actual figures. I've seen shadow shapes but they turn out to be a sweater hanging on a doorknob or something. But that doesn't mean they don't scare the crap outta me lol.

I do know people that have seen the urban legend or whatever you want to call it named "The Hat Man." This one seems common so I'm curious if anyone else has seen it?

I haven't but my mom did when she was a kid and it was terrifying to her. It was only one time that I am aware of. When she saw it, it didn't have eyes and it did fade into nothingness.

Yeah, a fair amount too. Usually it isn't just a pile of clothes or a chair, but me just being an idiot and thinking I saw things that weren't there.

When I was around 6-10 years old, whenever I'd walk or run past my siblings' room, I'd see this blackish-grey smoky figure standing near the window. I'd always go back and check, but there was never anything there.

12-13 years old, I'd see this weird monochromatic skeletal figure with subtly glowing eyes standing at the edge of or the foot of my bed. Creepy as hell. Whenever I saw it I couldn't move for a few minutes, and I'd be praying like crazy to get rid of that thing lol.

Both of these previous examples are easily enough explained. The first one, I'd just after watching Rise of the Guardians so I thought I saw Pitch Black everywhere (though this was a bit more uncanny), and the second one I'd read a creepypasta and got scared and the fears manifested in my mind.

One thing though that I don't know where it came from was when I was about 5, I was sitting on my parents bed in the middle of the day, so it was nice and bright, this shadowy and dark shark in a space suit was just right in front of me? It was strange. I remember it really clearly because of how unusual it was.

Quite recently, I swear I saw a black mouse run across the floor and go under the fridge, but again, nothing was there. My mam and I checked underneath, nothing, and no way for the mouse to escape without us seeing. But then two days later my dad found mouse droppings in our house. So I guess I'm just a prophet /j

Yeah, sometimes I do. I have a bad habit of looking behind myself a lot and sometimes I see figures that I think are living things, but when I look more clearly they're not. Optical illusions are trippy, lol.

I've had hallucinations since I was in middle school as a trauma response. I take medication that lessens them, but they still appear sometimes. Usually, they are just voices that sound like the people around me. I do have "shadow people" sometimes, though. When it's dark, I often see humanoid people or animals run around or stare menacingly at me before vanishing instantly. They startle me when I see them, but I'm so used to having these hallucinations that they no longer scare me.

There's been very few occasions when I've seen shadows that resemble a human form (except those that are shadows of actual human forms, of course...). I'm sure if that happened now, my instinct would be to turn the light on. Better (for me, at least) to address it immediately than worry about a coat rack in the corner of the room. 😅

I have never experienced seeing shadow people before but my husband has ever since he was a child. He has never seen them in our house before but has if we were on holiday at a rental house.

I'm curious. So I have seen them but I stopped after I acquired dogs, except for one time. At the time it was the dead of night and I was in bed so, it could have been one of those in-between sleep and awake moments. But all dogs were locked up at the time. I usually leave one or two out. So my question for you if you don't mind answering, do you have cats or dogs in your house?

Yes I have a black cat actually ☺️ I’ve had her in this house for a while and my husband has never seen any shadow figures in this house and hasn’t for a while.

I do believe our cat protects us 💜

Thankfully, no. The closest thing would've been me being asleep or half asleep and thinking someone was standing in the doorway, but it wasn't sleep paralysis, more like a dream. I don't even think my eyes were open.

i am an incredibly paranoid person and think some entities are stalking me, they cannot be seen but they instill paranoia i have an object i believe makes them go away
and i will give it some my blood every so often, i am perfectly healthy and i don't draw much blood, i don't care if it's just a placebo if it works it works
