I used to make trends in my school... things like wearing colored contacts, dying my hair a certain color, certain short haircuts, wearing bow ties, making stuffed animals into backpacks... but I was the weird misfit kid that nobody talked to, yet somehow everybody always loved to copy. Obviously, nothing was a "real" trend outside of school. I don't think I own a single trendy thing though, aside from my bag that has elephants on it and tribal print (tribal-whatever seems really popular).
Trends are pretty hard to avoid 100% of the time considering they're obviously a trend for some reason. Things that are bland and boring won't become trends if everyone thinks they're bland and boring.
I do my own thing, however, I recently discovered these toys called squishies. I think I'm a little late to the trend, but they look so wonderful soft, I just had to get one. It's a green apple, and it's not as squishy as the ones I've seen online, but I've been squishing it for three days.
When I was younger, I was more inclined to follow the trend. In high school particularly, you want to fit in, right?
One of the good things about getting older is that you become a bit more comfortable in your own skin and don't worry so much about what the rest of the crowd is doing.
