I swear my interior and exterior decorating skills are so non-existent, dude. I mean I know I’ll get there eventually but holy geez does my island look like a barren wasteland compared to some absolutely gorgeous ones I’ve seen. Seriously! Weeds and empty space have dominated 99% of my place! Gah! >m<

Same here! I have no imagination and my flowers are all over the place without any coordination:(

I know my island isn’t exactly Youtube perfect but I like how it’s turned out.

Don’t discount weeds, though! They actually can look nice in certain amounts, depending on what you’re going for. My beaches are dominated by them on purpose, in fact!

Gah! Tell me about it lol. I literally have flowers in random clumps or incomplete among the edges of my island and I look at myself and go, “What the actual hell am I going for here?!”

Honestly, I kind of really like the look of weeds and empty space filled with nothing but greenery. That's what most of my outside areas are, with just a few decorated spaces here and there. From what I've been told, it looks good.

i do! my island rep’s house is near finished + i have incomplete areas all over my island but it’s honestly just,, not super sexy LMAO. i genuinely don’t know a single thing about interior design or landscaping and so whenever i look at other people’s islands and what they’ve come up with, i definitely feel insecure about it sometimes ;/

that being said, i do have ideas but i never know how to execute them and so everything i come up with just feels a bit,, underwhelming aha

Maybe it'll help if you see your island as a forever er work in progress. I pretty much took the approach of I'll decorate an area until I like it enough. Maybe I'll change a few things later or tear it down and redo it completely.

For example I made an entrance in May and I decided to tear it down today and redo it.

I had these four lamps by a bridge that I liked enough but it wasn't quite right. I removed two of them and now I like it a lot better.

Not the best at decorating myself o-o I especially struggle with cliffs :<
This new update has been amazing though, and I just learned something neat...

This is both a lamp AND a table and I love it <3

My current house theme is storage.

I really liked your designs from the tidbit I’ve seen from your screenshots 😊. I don’t blame you though for feeling the way you do since I feel the same way. At the same time, when I see people’s amazing designs, it pushes me to try harder coming up with ideas and to improve mine :). I feel more insecure when I post screenshots of my designs. >< I like some of my designs and I know that is all that should matter, but it makes me really happy to know how it looks to others (i feel petty and awful for being like this of course ><)

Personally, I want to think I am creative and am a good designer but I am terrible at terraforming, and my designs all take too much space and a couple are semi functional and I don’t think any of my areas are on top quality level compared to some islands I’ve visited or their dreams. Normally it doesn’t bother me about the functionality of my island, but when I read threads about it, it makes me think even my semi-functional designs aren’t as good as I thought they were.

I feel you I have a few areas decorated but nothing near as complete and cohesive as some islands I’ve seen online or in dream addresses. But then again some of the really decorated, fancy islands you can barely move around in and I would hate for my island to be like that. Not to mention the lag that comes with it lol

so basically what I’m trying to say is empty islands are nice too!! I need to tell myself that too sometimes when I’m trying to landscape/decorate etc. I just don’t have inspiration for every part of my island and that’s okay

I used to be ok at it, when there was a wider, better variety of furniture.

Now I'm literally having the hardest time finding something to put on a table, or finding a table to put something on.

Part of my problem comes from the lack of furniture tbh, but as things get added It'll get better...I hope :/

it's gonna sound fake as heck and funny but i honestly think there's really no "terrible" way of decorating an island. plus i don't think any skill sets are needed here at all. it's just so incredibly subjective to what each person's preferences are as an individual. a super decked out in a certain theme/style island could easily have zero appeal to me personally despite what others deem it to be "beautiful" or "cool." the reason being is simply because my taste doesn't align with it, y'know what i mean? 🤷🏻‍♀️

the takeaway point i hope to send across is that at the end of the day, if what you have appeals to you then that's all that matters. the first step to get there is to really try and not compare your island/progress to other people :) just make your own flow and go with it. don't be shy to take things apart and try again if you need to.

I don’t think that sounds fake at all. i think you have a good point. :) Personally, my issue is low self esteem , anxiety, and setting the bar or my expectations too high. Consciously, I know that my happiness of my island should come first and be what matters since I’m the one living on it (someone just recently told me this which I greatly appreciated). Subconsciously though, I still look for some approval. :/ I’ll work on that fixing this mentality though if it is possible :).

Honestly, I would lean towards whether you're being too much of a critic to yourself or not rather than having challenges with the decorating.

Man, I see some beautiful towns in the dream suite, and on the forums, and I try to sort of emulate the style, like have objects stacked up near each other and scattered around the island, but when I do it it just looks messy :(

I actually prefer a scattered and "minimalist" approach to decorating. Sometimes, decor turn into clutter, coordinated or not.

Also if furniture placement is functional and can be used, then it's okay in my book. Most decor I've seen on extravagant islands are pretty much just "furniture displays". Takes up space and has no actual use. Literally "for your eyes only".
